Being interested in the aviation side of things from an historical aspect I belong to the 12 O'Clock High Forum. It's fairly specialised and detail oriented but if you have more than a passing interest it's a goodie. Also frequented by some of the big names in aviation history.

There might be better ones, but The History Channel does have forums for WW ll and a number of other wars.
