I guess I wouldn't mind if it was a few cm shorter true. Interesting how my Aero Hooch Hauler, which is also 59cm long wears much shorter. Mainly because of the narrower bottom hem I guess. Perhaps also because of the different style and pattern.
Here it is with the same pair of denim, both jackets same length (on paper):

Nice! What’s your in-person thought on the Kakishibu leather? There’s a Cossack by Y’2 in the same leather, my size, sitting on Mercari staring at me.

It's everything I've ever dreamed of in terms of a natural / undyed / unfinished veg tan style leather. You can see all the natural markings, striations and scars.
It's definitely the star of the show with this jacket - simple design that allows the 10/10 luxurious and fancy leather do the talking.
To me this is the very end game of leather.
I cannot imagine a more exquisite, maybe except shell cordovan.
I haven't touched Shinki or Badalassi or Walpier or Maryam, but it's hard to imagine anything toping this.
This is the quintessential "leather" when I think of leather.
The touch is lovely as well, very similar to cxl - smooth and more "wet" than "dry". Not oily, maybe a bit waxy.
I do think that Y2 might be "cheating" a bit in a way - it seems to me that the leather is thicker in the sleeves than in the body. In a way that is good - allows for the famous rolls/creases/tunneling of the sleeves that every covets but also makes the body very light and comfortable. I could be wrong, but that's how it seems to me.
But obviously this luxury comes at a price - likely need to be much more careful with this (as with most leathers of this style, maybe except natural CXL) than you would with most black / brown / colored leathers.
It's definitely the most aniline and naked leather I've ever seen bar actual natural veg tan.
Personally I still can't decide whether it's for me in terms of actually owning and wearing a jacket out of this leather, but it sure is something to behold. Currently I'm leaning more on NO, but maybe it will grow on me.
The combination of that and less that ideal fit (yes I'm nuts) might result in me just not feeling comfortable wearing it and eventually putting it up in the classifieds.

Thanks for the detailed review. That’s some high praises for the leather! Given that you have already bought it and that it’s a used item, you might as well wear it until you’re bored of it, then put it up in the classifieds. It would cost you nothing.

The Y’2 Cossack in Persimmon tannin is so damn long, which appears to be a repeated feature of Y’2 jackets. Tag size 40 with a 24.4” back length, I would have preferred it at 22-23”. And here I thought Japanese has a shorter height, on average (men at 172cm).

High praise yeah, but I'm still not sure this stuff is for me. Great for collecting / as a museum piece / as art. But for wearing? Not sure if I can muster that.
I wish this one was a bit shorter as well yeah, but the trend does seem to be for jackets to be rather longer these days, Japan including. Some jackets are fine being longer, but stuff like denim style jackets and cossacks should be rather short in my opinion. J100 / racing shirts and half belts being on the other side of the spectrum - can definitely work and look rather fine when cut longer.

It’s not a bad idea to hang it on the wall as art and look at it every day. And its color changes with time too. Why pay $5-15k for a painting when you can just hang this piece of wearable art for a tenth of the price?

Agreed with your comment on lengths of the other styles.

Personally, I think it looks great. A little long, yes, but still ok.

Given your other jackets I can see why you have doubts. It’s a different style for sure, but I guess a lot comes from the colour of the hide too.

Maybe give it some time? I have a Type 1 from Y2 (indigo), and it’s been a closet queen for 9 months or so, before it’s found its place. Won’t want to miss it now.
Plus, all you said about the scarred Kakishibu. Doesn’t get much better than that!

@TartuWolf, It’s definitely a keeper, I didn’t mean to throw you off with my comment on the length, as you said above with a type I style jacket ideally it should Hit just about the belt line..yours is longer than that but perfectly fine.
i would be really happy to have that fit especially on a second hand jacket.

All good mate, I've also concluded that the length would ideally be about an inch shorter but it's not awful as is by any means, rather acceptable. You always make compromises when buying stock/used.
I'm mainly irked by the wide bottom hem and especially the wide waist. That MIGHT be a deal breaker for me, I still need to feel it out.
The main thing that will probably push me towards selling it is the gorgeous leather - likely it's just too much for me, as gorgeous as it is to marvel at!

And off it goes to the classifieds, grail jacket becomes and catch and release. I just can't bring myself to wearing this gorgeous thing. Too stressful haha. I'm sticking to dark brown and black leathers - slap me if I consider something like this again.

In my opinion the jacket is way to long and "tube like" for your body mate(which many of Y2's patterns are sadly, great made jackets but their patterns are kinda ****) especially for the style, which in my opinion should be rather short.

The leather looks great though, and from my experience the craftsmanship of Y'2's stuff are top notch, but I wish they re-made their patterns so they aren't made like tubes.

My 2 cents :)

Thanks for the feedback mate. I would not word it that way, but overall I agree, that's why it is waiting for a new owner in the classifieds! Absolutely incredible leather, craftsmanship and model style, but the cut/fit is not quite there for me.

You are right, not the best wording from me on my last post, that's my bad!

But just a bit sad over how they chooses to cut their jackets as the quality of their stuff really are top notch, especially for the price! They could be amazing if they adjusted their patterns a bit(shorter body and giving their jackets a bit of taper).

Sorry if I came off to harshly!

Cheers!

All good mate, don't worry :) I'd say the pattern is very decent, good shoulder width and sleeve length for the chest, good upper back space. I might really enjoy more taper and a shorter body, but not everyone needs it. Can't please everyone! Either have to go by statistics or by principal (based on vintage for example) when you design a pattern. For example the length is not long at all on paper! 59cm or 23.25". But somehow it wears much longer. Neck hole cut/location I guess. My hooch hauler is also 59cm and wears much shorter.

You may be unto something with the neck holes(and maybe the rather high arm holes Y2 seems to go for?) making them wear longer than the measurements would suggest.

I really enjoyed the HR-56 design, but sadly it wore a bit strange with a big front drop(6cm), narrow shoulders and little to no taper making it look very "tube like".
Very sad as it had one of the best looking leathers I've handled yet, just stunning!(hard to get on photo, but in the flesh in was gorgeous)
PXL_20241118_002252177~2.jpg

Same thing with the HR-55, while not as bad as the HR-56, but I still think it wears to long for the style, also had the same narrow shoulders and high arm holes and that "tube-ish" look compared to other similar repros from Japan/US :)
PXL_20241104_145932337~2.jpg

This is my own two cents ofc, but from what I've seen online this seems to be a recurring "problem" for a lot of body types with Y2's patterns, but hey I'm sure some people are made for them :)
