You may be unto something with the neck holes(and maybe the rather high arm holes Y2 seems to go for?) making them wear longer than the measurements would suggest.

I really enjoyed the HR-56 design, but sadly it wore a bit strange with a big front drop(6cm), narrow shoulders and little to no taper making it look very "tube like".
Very sad as it had one of the best looking leathers I've handled yet, just stunning!(hard to get on photo, but in the flesh in was gorgeous)

Same thing with the HR-55, while not as bad as the HR-56, but I still think it wears to long for the style, also had the same narrow shoulders and high arm holes and that "tube-ish" look compared to other similar repros from Japan/US

This is my own two cents ofc, but from what I've seen online this seems to be a recurring "problem" for a lot of body types with Y2's patterns, but hey I'm sure some people are made for them

That HR56 looks perfect on you and I’m still kicking myself for not buying it when you listed it. Thanks for the insight on the fit though - now I con console myself with the knowledge that it probably wouldn’t have worn well on me either with my wide shoulders.

Personally I have stopped subscribing to the notion that a jacket (or any item in a sense) has to be at a specific price point to be of a certain “quality”. We have discussed this ad nausea before and in my own collecting experience the ratio just hasn’t bore any fruit. I could legitimately argue with greater ease to the opposite.
Setting a limit, as Marc states, for diminishing returns is exactly where the value/satisfaction curve intersects. For example, would crown sprung zippers on my LW’s given me proportionately more joy in ownership related to cost, surely for me, the answer is no. It might be yes for others but you see the point.
With regard to the hides, piece of ****? No. The stretch marks referenced in the FC jackets are actually sought out and quite desirable to some folks. I think that’s a bridge too far to call them ****.
Pattern and fit are the same way. If you do not like a certain pattern or it doesn’t suit your body type, then that’s one thing. Calling them poorly made is unjust. We’ve seen these jackets posted here on actual members (not phony, retouched and filtered IG) and they do not look cheap or of poor quality.
I personally find a large swath of the Japanese market to be purely hype. I promptly sold or returned both my RMC jackets. One was so bad I wouldn’t dare post pictures here, and I’ve purchased some pretty awful stuff. As much as I like the Y’2 I posted above it is not as well built as Aero, SB, LW etc and I dare say it is even a tier below the 5 Star jacket I paid $300 for, some $500 less than the Y’2.

What made you believe that Y'2 is less well built than those companies stated? Of those I have SB (I'm assuming schott bros) - a modern 370, a modern (3sixteen collab) and vintage suede type 3, with the modern 3sixteen collab being the worst in quality having threading coming apart on the front V line stitching. Suede jackets from other brands I have are JL and some fashion brands (Valstar, Buck Mason, Todd Snyder, etc). They all seem fine for the most part (except for the SBx3sixteen collab), with JL being my favorite.

Was just curious to get your insight, as I'm tempted to order a Y'2 roughout jacket from overseas and wanted to see if the cost and in particular the possbile headaches with the import process/tariffs using ebay is worth it. Thanks!

While looking around for Y2 car coats I found this website:

I'd say it has more y2 models in one place than anywhere else I've seen.
Very nice to look over and compare various historic models from the "high-end" period of this brand (they also had a not-so-high-end period).
For example here you can find 9 different car coat models and info on them.

Can anyone enlighten me on whether the HR-55 with repeated wear will soften up and mold to your body? It's quite "boxy" new. I bought a size 40 (I am 5'6", 152 pounds, waist 30 inch) and it was obviously too big. I saw another jacket with the same size 40 but measurements were smaller so I bought it. And it does fit better, but it is still a fairly new jacket and still boxy, although less boxy. I actually have it for same on the forum classifieds right now.

I am wondering if I should keep the jacket and just wear the heck out of it and see if it will 'shrink" and be more form fitting to my body or if this is wishful dreaming?

I've seen a lot of comments on how it fits "new" but I have not seen any long-term reviews of a broken in HR-55 jacket yet.

I’m wonder if a size 38 might fit me better but I have to say all the size 38 from Y’2 looks like a good fit in pictures but too snug to wear in reality for me.

According to TJ at The Shop in Vancouver it may not "shrink" much in the torso but will definitely soften with wear and be less boxy.

If it feels like a good width in the shoulders and comfortable in the chest whether you want to be able to layer or not and like it - then wear it. It can only get better but if you aren't enjoying now the less likely you are to wear it enough to form to you.

You can see the difference between the one he pulls off the rack and his personal jacket (natural hide), which is much thicker, and how much it has changed.

Apparently he sizes up in Y'2 so if you're chest measures ~38" you're likely in a good range and if you measure ~40" I wouldn't worry about trying a smaller size but in the end it depends how you want it to fit in the end.

I haven't had the pleasure of wearing their jackets yet, currently just wearing their pants.

The natural hide is a different type leather. I am skeptical that the HR-55 will age the same way. I haven't be able to see real examples, whether it's pictures or videos of this jacket that has bene worn extensively. It's always new jacket pictures.

This one seems alot softer. He mentions he also bounces between three sizes 38, 40, and 42.

I think alot of the 'box'-iness fades away once the shoulders soften up and the jacket starts to drape.

I'm so tempted to try a size 38 for size but buying and selling jackets to get that right size can be terribly expensive. Oddly enough, the measurements on my size 40 jacket should fit me ideally, but it "feels" like I am wearing one size bigger, a size 42.

My problem with living in California, is there are not a lot of cold days to wear jackets and when you have a number of jackets, I always seem to grab the most comfortable and versatile one and the others get neglected.
