I remember seeing this on tv during the superbowl 1984. I was 17. I thought it was great at the time as I had read "1984" the year before and because of all the hype leading up to the new year.

Current favourites - the first was actually the first new thing on television at which I have genuinely laughed out loud in.... possibly over a year?

I can really hurt you V.C.! Back then I was heavily into full size drag racing, so naturally for Christmas I was given the Hot Wheels Snake and Mongoose, since I was a fan of and had meant Don Prudhomme and Tom McEwen. Unfortunately, I sold them at a garage sale a few years later for, I think, .50 cents. They were mint, never played with, never even had the stickers applied!

Cars Forever

This is a really great new commercial. I thought it was a Ford commercial at first, what with the 65 Mustang speedo at the beginning. It's the commercial Ford should have made!

Just in case you wanted to know who did the song for the above commercial. Great song, and look at the vintage cloths! Doesn't get much better then this!

1971 was a very good year for Hot Wheels! Many of the "Redliners" (1968-77 vintage Hot Wheels) that are the most sought after by collectors came out that year. Particularly the Classic Cord, Beach Bomb ('69 VW bus), and the S'Cool Bus -- all of which can be seen in the commercial. I'm looking for a Snake and Mongoose, preferably still in the original blister card. I had the blue Mongoose II from 1973. Sadly the remnants of my childhood Redliners were such beaters that decided to start all over and I sold them to a friend some ten years ago. I just recently acquired a Classic Cord, something that I didn't even have when I was a kid.

Tom McEwen lives in my area and sells at a local diecast collectibles shop. I always see his display case when I'm there.

EDIT: I still have my old Mongoose II redliner! :)
