Actually, the lable under the sweat says Style: GRAD PTA, Color: FENWAY.

So unless chocolate brown is called Fenway in Adamland I'm guessing that sounds more like a model name.

It's from the Miller Bros era and my first guess was that this hat was from the 70's, but some things about it lead me to allow that it could be from the 60's. The lining is stitched rather than glued for one. The labeling looks older than the 70's. But you experts on Adam hats will no doubt be able to set me straight.

I'm also wondering if this lid started life as a pork pie. The snap down seems to want to snap up and the overall bash reminds me of a 'pie that's been grabbed by the front a lot.

So...do I get to join Adam Alley?? :p

Your hat reminds me of this hat... I'd say early to mid 50's, just because the liner says the hat is an "Executive", which is a quality designation from the 50's, but I'm still stumped by the wide variation of details. The style is so similar, yet the liner is different. What gives!?[huh]

Thanks Johnny. Yep those two hats are certainly cut from the same template - though not quite the same cloth. Your lid is a tad hairier than mine. Is yours a Miller Bros Adam? The different liner may simply reflect an earlier manufacture of your hat.

Is there a model name on the label under the sweat?

Yours is the fourth similar, yet not the same, version of this hat that has appeared on this thread.

And 'aint that feather a work of art on my version?! I'm still not sure if it makes the lid a bit girly - but it's such a pretty thing!

Cannot really be early 50's as Miller Bros didn't purchase Adam wholesale and manufacturing until Feb 1955.

The one you show is later but probably prior to '61 which is roughly when they switched logo again and went to black sweatbands

Thanks. I was hoping it might be on the high end of 7 1/4, but it fits exactly like the last Adam I had.

New Adam

My recently arrived Adam from Johnnyphi.

I love the colour (almost a non-colour!) which IMO works well for me. The felt is gradually coming to life after a few decades in a box, and is getting softer and richer every time I wear it. Hasn't really been off my head in the week or so that I've had it.....

BillyS, and those who know about these things: any idea on vintage of this one?

Regards, and thanks to all for the 'Adam-inspiration'.

RobStC

Sorry about the list of links to the pics - haven't been able to work out how to insert pics directly into the body of the post. Any suggestions?

Based on the two features above, I'd say late 40s. Very nice hat and am jealous.

Aha..... Many thanks for the pointer, Deputy Swoopy. Thought it would be something simple like that. Will try that next time.....

Thanks, Bill, was sure this would be familiar territory for you. Having admired (even lusted after!) some of the other Adams on this thread since I joined the Lounge, it feels great to be able to post one of my own. It's my first proper vintage hat, apart from a couple of 'experimental' old Homburgs years ago, but I think the bug has truly bitten now. Another one on its way soon, I hope.....

I'm somewhat late joining this society officially, being as I've had an Adam for over a year. I just keep forgetting. But here it is.

Nice one, NB13. What's the colour called? And does the ribbon actually have that pink-ish shade that I see in your pics, or is it just the light?

Anyway, VERY NICE!!

The ribbon color came out very well in the pictures (better than the felt color), so yes. It does have a slight pinkish hue. The name of the felt color is not on the tag, but it matches Art's "natural" almost exactly.

Airliner

Here is a nice thin ribbon Adam, model Airliner, color Cloud. Its a medium grey/light charcoal. Original $7.95 price tag was tucked under the liner. Thin felt, lightweight hat. The Adam logo on the sweat is very hard to read but says "Fifth Avenue Quality". I'll add measurements later.

Hi, I just acquired an Adam hat and have another model for you, Billyspew.

It has the first liner logo on your site listed under executive. The one with the shading and three coats of arms.

On the sweatband it says, "Adam Executive, Cushioned for Comfort" and on the other side, "A Product of Adam, America's Famous Hatter" Next to that there is something that looks like a cents symbol.

The tag under the sweatband says "Executive Club". The price is 7.50 and the size 7 1/4. The tag simply says ADAM with the Broadway address. No union stamp or anything.

It has the broad brim edge and it is a 2 5/8" brim. The color is a light grey-brown. It has an unusual ribbon in that there is no bow and the ribbon is pleated.

I will post pics as soon as I can take some. I got this on Ebay this last Sunday and received it today.

Any idea on the year it was produced? Based on my reading here I'm thinking either just before the war or just after, since there is no "ceiling price" on the inside tag.

It's in amazing shape with only one mothbite, but could use a bit of cleaning. I'm hesitant to have it cleaned, though, since I would hate to have the liner removed or the sweatband, since it appears to be all original and in my experience collecting historic firearms it is best to leave something all original rather than cleaning it. Do they remove these things for a basic cleaning?

Also, there is no reed for the sweatband, it is sewn right to the felt and the liner is sown in.

It fits perfect and was easily shaped without steam. Awesome hat IMO.

I also recently bought a Jaxon Iconoclast in fur felt ( great hat for the money ), a Lock Co., and a Royal Deluxe Stetson from the early '60's or late '50's. This is easily my favorite since it has a large brim and is from, in my estimation, the 1940's; my favorite era.

Anyway, thanks in advance for any insight. I will post pics of it tomorrow.

Tim
