I'm not trying to hate here, but I think the fedora looks better dressed up. Button down shirt and maybe a sport coat. Not saying the man in that picture doesn't look good, but fedoras are a little dressier than some other hats

I'd say jeans aren't an issue, but a button down shirt looks better with a fedora. To me, the plain t shirt makes a fedora look out of place, like wearing nice slacks with a tank top and tennis shoes.

I wear a cowboy hat, but I live on a ranch in Montana, so most others do too. When I visit Washington where my Grandmother and some other family of mine live, people give me odd looks and either ask me if I'm a poser, or ask if a rodeo is in town. As for your you g nen stereotyped fedora thing...

I won't pretend to be an expert on era and all that, but it does have the rugged appearance of long fur beaver. I'd say what you've found is an old bowler hat. These were meant to be worn with the top left as it is, but if you prefer, you can shape an open crown any way that suits your fancy.

No, Oilskin hats are waterprrofed with oil just like oil skin dusters. Although they are cotton, the oil takes away much of the breathability. Straw is the best way to go if you want breathable

The two hats I have are a Stetson Stallion Foothills hat, which is a 4 inch brim cattlemans crease cowboy hat, and a stetson drifter hat, which is a pinch front crown with a 3 1/2 inch brim. The drifter is somewhere in between fedora and cowboy hat I guess. I work on a ranch by the way, so...
