    The Astaire-Rogers Musicals!

Swing Time I have to say Swing Time first, but I also like Follow the Fleet. I think Harriet Hilliard is adorable, and something about "Face the Music and Dance" grabs me. Swing Time, though, has my favorite songs and dances. I finally saw Flying Down to Rio, and oh, my! Ginger Rogers's...

    Halloween Costumes

Our niece and her young man are getting married in a Halloween costume party wedding. We're attending as Nick and Nora Charles. (They're doing Buttercup and Westley from The Princess Bride.) (Now I have "Lydia the Tattooed Lady" stuck in my head!)

    "The Women"

Yeah, I love The Women, too, and not just for the snappy dialogue, which is extremely entertaining. I just loved some of the period-specific scenes, like exercising in the figure salon. And Margaret Dumont is in it. :D Somehow, I can't get excited about any of these current stars. [huh] As...

    What Are You Reading

I'm slowing working my way through these (in order). I just finished The Garden Murder Case. Our library network has most of them, and I've bought a few secondhand on eBay. You can also download electronic versions from Project Gutenberg Australia...

    1930's Makeup Tutorial

This tutorial is great! The lips don't work for me so much, but I love the eyes! It looks like a lot of work, but I'm going to try it. :D Thank you so much for posting the link! And thank your friend for making the video. :)

Vintage Things That Have Disappeared In Your Lifetime?

There's not much I miss. I certainly don't miss merthiolate or dial phones or skates with keys! I sometimes miss having a typewriter. I miss the old dime stores (Kresge's is now Kmart -- not really an improvement, IMO). I miss being able to get a doctor's appointment on the day you call. I...

Vintage Things That Have Disappeared In Your Lifetime?

John, I agree about just putting a warning on it. It's still available, though, but you need a prescription. It's not cheap, of course, but a prescription plan might cover it.

Calling Cards (name cards, not phone cards)

Educate 'em. lol And anyway, people have the concept of finding letters on the phone from those toll-free numbers with words in them. I think your idea sounds very cool. :) A card that says something like FOrest 6-4287 shouldn't confuse people too much.

    Hacking Jackets

Aha. Well, you gentlemen are way out of my league. This one says "Amalgamated Garment Workers of Canada" and no date. :o I'll just sit here quietly and read and learn, then. Thank you, Baron. :)

Can I refill a vintage lipstick tube with a new lipstick bullet?

Would the Besame lipstick bullet be the right size to transfer to a vintage case, then?

    Hacking Jackets

That's a really beautiful jacket, Scotrace. I love the fabric. Where do you find the date? My husband has a similar jacket (only two buttons, though), and I'm now realizing it might be cooler than I thought. :)

    concentration/staying on track

Work Avoidance First, as Alexandra suggests, break down the work into its component parts. Then assign yourself another task. Example: If you don't read this stack of articles, you have to vacuum the living room. I'd much rather do the reading, and doing the reading lets me avoid vacuuming...

    Highland Dress

:D That's my interpretation. But if a guy wears a "skirt," he's in drag. This is a guy's garment, but it's not a proper kilt, is it? I think someone should come up with a separate name for it. :)

    Highland Dress

Utilikilts You all look very snazzy in your Highland dress, gentlemen. :eusa_clap I know some guys who wear Utilikilts. It's nothing to do with heritage for them; they're not wearing kilts, really, they're wearing nonbifurcated garments. One of these guys prefers them as daily wear (with a...

    inlaws(screams)

This is the part that confuses me. Dani is supposed to stand up for herself. Well, everybody loves Dani except the MIL. Why don't the others stand up for Dani, too? These stories are hilarious (in a horrible sort of way), but I keep hoping for one that goes, "So he told my MIL that if she can't...
