How to get rid of silverfish?

My husband did his post-residency training at Johns Hopkins Hospital...they had waterbugs (big blackish cockroaches) in the ORs! Roaches are endemic.

    Department Stores?

I grew up going to the original Magnin's. My grandmother used to take me there as a little girl, and I shopped there until the store closed for good. I even bought my wedding dress there. Federated bought them out years and years before Macy's bought out Federated, and started the dumbing-down...

    CLEANING VINTAGE FURNITURE

I would look for pieces to have reupholstered rather than to use as is, and I would make certain to buy from a reputable place that sanitizes upholstery before selling it. (In case you have to wait a little while for reupholstering.) I have read horror stories about bedbugs coming into a home...

    Jewelry boxes

I used an antique Japanese sewing box for a long time, but it suffered a traumatic fall and the drawers don't open well anymore. Now I keep it in a few different places -- brooches and earrings in a contemporary box with velvet-lined drawers, necklaces and bracelets in divided trays in my...

    How about the WORST ads?

My husband used to have this up in his office (he's a pediatric anesthesiologist), but people thought it was too creepy.

    WEN cleansing conditioner?

I just looked at the ingredient list for the WEN product, and it doesn't look all that different from other conditioners. Certainly not $30 worth of difference. I'd imagine you could find something very similar at Whole Foods for half as much.

It sounds a lot like the Audrey Hepburn movie "Funny Face"!

    Mid Century Modern easy chair

I got an email from Daily Candy this afternoon about a new site for selling Mid-Century furniture. It's called Lushpad, and it's a site for buyers and sellers to find each other. Daily Candy blurb -- http://www.dailycandy.com/everywhere/article/38303/Such+a+Lush Lushpad website --...

What was the last TV show you watched?

We've been watching "Midsomer Murders", rented from Netflix, and "Foyle's War" on the DVR. I read the other day that there apparently is "Foyle's Peace" in the works. http://tinyurl.com/5kakbc

    Sterling with dinner?

It's better for silver flatware to use it frequently -- you don't have to polish it when you use it! There are a few things to keep in mind -- it's okay to put it in the dishwasher, but make sure it isn't touching any stainless -- a chemical reaction can occur between the silver, the washing...

Can anyone help me find this desk or one like it?

It looks like a partners' desk, with drawers that can be accessed on both sides? Does it need to be accessible from both sides? Here is one that can be ordered in whatever finish you like. The company is to the trade only, so you will need to go through an interior designer to purchase it. The...

How Vintage Do You Go? -merged thread-

My decision to include vintage things in my lifestyle is because I like the style, quality & craftsmanship, not because I think life was better then and want to emulate it -- hearing my grandmothers' stories about life during the Depression and wartime disabused me of any notions of that. Since...

    Dried out lipstick:(

Try dipping your lip brush in lip balm first, then going over the dried lippie. I do that with Smith's Rosebud Salve and a Smashbox lipstick that is so matte/dry it hurts to put on. It makes it more of a cream lipstick than a matte, but to keep it matte you could blot well.
