Dennis Quaid actually did a pretty decent job portraying Doc Holiday. He would have been my favorite Holiday if it weren't Val Kilmer.The best of the Doc Hollidays:

Great film, I personally can't get enough of Sam Elliot, I especially liked him in Gettysburg and Conagher ( my favorite SE flick) and special mention to The Quick and the Dead. To me he's the embodiment of the cowboy. Laid back but like a cobra ready to strike at any time. My only regret is he's getting old, but I hope he never retires.The Desperate Trail (1995) ... It's one of my favorites, I saw it when it debuted at the local movie house. Like all western's a lot is lost when not seen on the "Big Screen". God's country just doesn't come across as powerfully even on a 100 inch screen.

Oh good lord, no! You're quite welcome. That would be like saying Adam West was the best Batman.TJ, thank you for not listing Hugh O'Brian or Harris Yulin. Although Yulin made for a brooding Wyatt Earp in an odd sort of way.
This is a tough call for me simply because they're two different portrayals of Wyatt Earp in two very different versions of the same story. I consider Tombstone as the "MTV, fast food, Reader's Digest Condensed" version of the story, while Wyatt Earp is the more in-depth examination. The problem, I think, is that Kevin Costner occasionally seems a bit lost in period pieces such as this--moments when his performance itself feels anachronistic--so Kurt Russell's performance is more consistent by comparison. I suppose that means I'd give Russell's performance a slight edge, but of the two movies I prefer Wyatt Earp.
