Detachable Collar Stud Question

The stud in the back of my formal dress shirt that attaches the collar sits about 1/4 inch above the collar of my jacket.

My formal dress shirt has a loop in the back below the collar for the bow tie to slip through.

If the bow tie is tied around the collar it covers the stud in the back.

If the bow tie is slipped through the loop, the stud is exposed and looks glaringly wrong.

1. Which is correct?

2. If the collar loop is used, (which I think looks much classier), what does one do to mitigate the stud?

I have not been able to find any pictures showing this rear view.

Thank you,

David

I may be wrong, but with the coat on (which is mandatory in formal dress) the stud and the loop should rest under the collar, so not visible by anyone.

The loop is for the tie, to keep the band from riding up in the back. It, and the stud, should be covered by the collar of the jacket so there is nothing wrong about it.

I don't think that's what the loop is for.
Depending upon the positioning of the loop, it can either be a retaining loop for the neck-strap of a backless waist-coat, or for the neckwear. There is really no reason to worry too much about using the retainer for your neckwear unless it's texture or structure are too flimsy to hold it in place.....If it (the loop) is that low, I would surmise that it was meant for the neck strap, as stated above. Why should the stud bother you? I don't get it. The stud shows everyone that you are actually wearing a real detachable collar shirt, in a decidedly discrete and degage manner. It's a subtle way of saying "I know, and do". Ditto to that little peak of frontal collar stud over your bow-tie when wearing evening wear, or appropriate collar and day wear. Enjoy! Don't fuss the little details!
