You just listed two reasons to buy one--sweating in the yard and hiking in the woods.
Thank you Johnny. I'd like to take credit for the character, but it came to me that way. I had almost forgotten about this hat since I started acquiring fur felts, but I'm definitely going to start wearing it more often.
That's a valid concern. I haven't had that experience with this hat (or any of my other hats), but I suppose it depends on how much hair you have, how long or short you wear it, and/or how sensitive your head is. My hair has been slowly thinning over the last 15 years or so, but I still have enough of it to provide that extra layer of protection.

Yeah, I'm fairly follically challenged. A hat crown that touches my scalp directly transmits the heat. And the cold, for that matter. That's why a hat with an air-pocket, such as a fedora, is more comfortable for me in any weather.

My best friend for the last 45+ years has the same problem. He started losing his hair when he was in his late-teens and he's very fair-skinned, so he's been an advocate for wearing caps and hats to protect his head from the elements for decades.
Now that I think about it, he has my first RDB hat. I bought it in early 2010 and soon after won a second one (the one in the photos above) when Real Deal Brazil had a giveaway on Facebook. I was wearing one of 'em one day when he mentioned he wanted a good but inexpensive rain hat and liked the one I was wearing, so the next day I put the two hats in front of him and let him choose the one he wanted; fortunately, they fit him about as well as they fit me. I should be seeing or talking with him in the next day or two, so I'll try to remember to ask him if he's ever worn it for sun protection and if he had any problems with heat, and I'll get back to you.
I think almost everyone here has been inspired at least one time by the classic Henry Johnson Poet. Being on an Indy kick as of late, I couldn't believe my eyes when I found a real Herbert Johnson Poet for sale, and for $250 no less! I contacted the eBayer instantly and offered $265 for it, still under the price of some of the higher end repros. So, I'm currently awaiting my own Indy hat!
I may have to rebash it, but that's no problem for me.

Being on an Indy kick as of late, I couldn't believe my eyes when I found a real Herbert Johnson Poet for sale, and for $250 no less! Congratulations, and I'm not trying to be a pessimist here, but just be aware that shortly after the movie there were some 'mysterious' occurrences that resulted in the original block for the Raiders hat disappearing, and a change of felt used for the Poet up through at least the release of the movie. Your hat may be a HJ, but how close to the iconic RotLA hat is anyone's guess.
I am curious, though, and excited to see what you will receive. Please post pictures when you can!
Yeah, I'm aware. I'm still stoked. I plan to rebash it closer to the iconic Raiders bash. It seems loosely bashed right now, and the Raiders bash is tighter.

Because I am not that tall I tend to like a high crown hat
