    Paintings that showcase vintage fashion

A great source for period illustrations is Today's Inspiration. It features magazine and book illustrators mostly but its a lot of work from the early part of the 20th century, before photography became the go-to for magazine illustrations. Like this: and this If this is a look of...

What seperates "golden era" from "midcentury"?

I have the original 1950 kitchen in my home -- 60+ year-old ceramic tile counter tops, wood cabinets that have rusty hinges and warping from water and too many layers of paint. I would try to save them all but I know that if I want to resell the house, I need to "update" my kitchen for modern...

    Cute Vintage-y Shoes

I found some good vintage-look shoes at, of all places, Aerosoles. and Both are on sale. There's also a great pair of pumps/court shoes too: I bought the first two designs and I can't wait for them to arrive.

    Cute Vintage-y Shoes

I just got a great pair of sturdy oxfords. They are the Ugg Caelyn in chocolate. Crepe sole, leather shoe and there is sheepskin on the footbed under the toe area which helps keep my feet toasty. I've had them for about a month. They are breaking in well, the leather has some darker areas where...

    1920's fashion - femme vs. not-femme?

I've been watching (and re-watching and re-watching) the Phryne Fisher Murder Mystery Series and she often dons trousers but its definitely in a provocative/bohemian look. They tend to be silky, almost pajama-like trousers. Beautiful but not at all the hard-working, hard-wearing gear of a...

    Saddle shoes

Sorry to hear the quality of your saddle shoes weren't what you'd had in the past. I bought a pair of black-and-white saddles (Willits is the label) from Muffy's a few years back. The leather quality was good but there is a weird seam inside the shoe under the ball of my foot. I notice it most...

    Saddle shoes

BAIT shoes are all vegan. In other words, they are non-leather. I had a pair of t-straps but they had were more for looks than long-wear and durability. Super cute but definitely not as long lasting as a good pair of leather shoes. But if you would prefer non-leather, they are a good option.

Now this is more like it! - Duchess of Cambridge in Canada outfit.

Great quote! I totally agree, Tomasso! I think Kate is beautiful and her clothing choices have been lovely and personal. I love her sailor dress, the yellow shirtdress and the military ensemble -- the addition of the shamrock pin made the outfit ever-so-slightly whimsical. She is not trying to...

What's something modern you won't miss when it becomes obsolete?

As for Mexican Coke, I've heard it can be found at Costco. I haven't checked myself though.

Ingrid Bergman Dress Destroyed - Vogue shows it off

A beautiful dress gave its life so that she may appear in Vogue. Imagine how much more glamorous Elletra would have seemed had she just shown up wearing the dress fully intact? "This old thing? I got in from Granny's attic!"

Comments You Get When You Dress Vintage

I hate to hear about the crappy reactions people have expressed towards lovelies like Tatum, Sweetheart of the Rodeo and Annie Pancake. I have had the urge to express my distaste for the poor showing certain "modern dressers" have made lately and imagine their feeling if I did. I had a...

    Cold Cream- Brands and advice!

I love the Boot Original Rose Cold Cream (moldy rose smell and all). I am going to have to go on a mad dash to find every jar left so that I don't have to switch brands!

Comments You Get When You Dress Vintage

Kate O Potato, what a great response! I was at the airport last week wearing a repro 50s polka dot skirt, saddle shoes and a cardigan and the clerk at the ticket counter asked if I was coming from a play. Confused, I said "No, from Chico!" and he looked bewildered. As I was walking to the TSA...

    Help me accessorize this Outfit!

I would pair that wonderful jacket with a solid colored skirt and blouse myself so that the jacket is the star. Black wide-leg trousers and a blouse would also be fabulous, don't you think?

    Help me accessorize this Outfit!

I would wear the natural stockings and t-bar heels in a color that coordinates as it would feel like a fresh, summery day outfit. Matchy-matchy is quite true to the vintage look but you could also wear the vintage stockings with black shoes too. If you plan on wearing it for an evening event...

    Cute Vintage-y Shoes

I had a bout with plantar fasciitis myself last year, and these were the *only* shoes I could wear without falling on the floor in pain. They have very solid arch support. thanks so much for the info. I have a few pairs of low heels and I wore one pair to work yesterday and I crippled...
