    The Middy Thread

I don't mean to change the subject, but if you are experiencing carpel tunnel issues, most likely it is coming from an improperly set up workstation, incorrect typing posture, or the need for alternative typing equipment. If you are typing with your wrists above elbow level, or placing your...

    The Middy Thread

I think the layer job really is for people who have normal to thick hair. I know I had to let the layers grow because it looked too skimpy in the back. Does your hair hold a curl? If it doesn't you may want to wet your hair before styling, and sleep in curlers. Also, you may want to get clip...

    The Middy Thread

If your hair is skinny, you may want to let the layers grow out in the back, otherwise it may look too skinny. I let mine grow out and just cut the hair in front of the ears a bit shorter and then graduate it so that it matches the U in the back of my hair. I hope that makes sense.

    The Middy Thread

I cut my own hair into a middy, and I couldn't be happier. The key to cutting your hair in a middy, is taking each layer (you'll have about 4, 1/2 inch shorter than the last) and brushing it straight out to the side and cutting it vertically. When you cut it vertically, the sections fall back...

    Cold Cream- Brands and advice!

I've noticed that most cold creams dry up, finally after trying several, I went back to vaseline. It lasts, keeps my skin moisturized, and most importantly, it's cheap. It isn't for everyone, but it's the only thing that works for me....and it keeps the wrinkles at bay!

Help! Where is my hair going???

sorry to hear this. Medication (anti-depressants and stress) can cause your hair to fall out. Also high testosterone levels can also do this. Try rogaine 5%, this will help you if you are showing early signs of alopecia. It is proven to be better in growing back hair in women then it is in...

Marilyn Monroe/1950s hair help - what do I tell my stylist?

short horizontal layer cut. The top part of the hair would be the longest about 5"-6", the rest around would graduate long to short so the bottom is around 2" or so. Good luck on the haircut. The most important thing to remember with the haircut is the set. Good luck

Can you date this vanity table?? Kinda urgent...

seeing the tapestry, I would say this is a 1920s 1930s reproduction. The tapestry most likely is machine made, which came to be around this period

How often do you wash your hair? (guys & gals)

Dish washing liquid is really the only thing that takes the grease out of my hair. I think the reason they use it at the black salons is because the ladies' hair is full of product and it needs to be stripped. I have colored my hair, and since I don't wash it often, it works great. My hair...

How often do you wash your hair? (guys & gals)

my hair, particularly through the winter, is very sensitive to washing and develops nasty flakes. So I wash it about twice a week if I can get away with it. If you ever had trouble with dry scalp, the easiest solution is to stop washing it so often. For the grease I wash it with baking soda...

does anyone wear wigs or hair pieces?

you can make your own clip in extensions, I sometimes use them when I want fullness (not length, because it can look fake) I made them from hair that is used for weaving. Having your hair weaved however, stretches the scalp so women sometimes develop bald spots.

    Your beauty mistakes

ugh I have many. Shaved off my eyebrows at 14 and drew them in. Plucked them super skinny like a chola throughout high school. Wore extremely heavy foundation in high school. Dark, dark almost brown lipstick...really bright cheek color that looked like a clown at 16....but alas, my mistakes...

Overdue for a trim and getting nervous...

the best thing to do is purchase a reproduction hair guide and do it yourself. It's a lot easier to cut long hair by yourself, then it is to cut short hair. I'm so glad I learned. Saves me a lot of money, and I'm usually happy with the way it turns out

Show us your Thrift and/or yard sale finds

it's a good sign of a quality piece. Cheaper furniture didn't bother with these types of joints. (like kitchen cabinets) if you look at a lot of modern examples, like furniture from ikea, they forgo dovetailing all together.

does not look like a 50s or 60s piece at all, probably early 30s, have you noticed if it has dove tailed joints? It would be a higher sign of quality and most likely a piece of an earlier decade, and not the 50s/60s

Girl, where were you last week? I wanted to go to cicada but couldn't find anyone who's really into the scene to go, and I didn't want to show up alone. If you ever want to come to the LA area, and just don't want to go by yourself...let me know.
