    What Are You Reading

Reading Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. The English prose from that period (1818) holds your attention. I am really enjoying it. I think it is well written and a good story. The movies that followed in the next century bear no resemblance at all to the book.

    Attire during lockdown

I just retired so it's chinos, long sleeve t shirts, carpet (smoking) slippers with socks. Shower and dress everyday and shave once a week.

Men rings - How to choose? What do you wear?

Class ring on my right hand and my wedding ring on my left

In Search Of: The Great Hot Dog Stand

Mr Gene's Dog House in Cincinnati. Kind of a hole in the wall place with a great variety of dogs. Their Chicago Dog is my favorite. The lady inside calls me Sugga, that alone is worth the trip!

Who's your favorite "blues" guitar player? (dead or alive)

I agree "Kingfish" is very good, hope to hear more from him. I would like to add Michael Burkes "The Ironman" and Coco Montoya, they both are pretty good "string benders".

Who's your favorite "blues" guitar player? (dead or alive)

Luther Allison, I especially like his “Live In Chicago”. Next would be Gary Clark Jr.

    Guide for first fedora/hat

Lack of Color is an interesting Australian hat site. The site has 2 flat brim fedora style hats that I have and like. The models are women, but they look as good on men (unisex hats). There is the Zulu (tan) and the Jethro II, which is black with a slightly higher crown. There are other...

How Many Safari Jackets are Enough

I have 5 safari jackets, including a tan suede and a brown wool jacket with windowpane checks. It never really about need is it?

    Batsakes Hat Shop in Cincinnati

I agree, Gus is very nice and personable, but he doesn't sell the hats. Brusque is too kind a word. The dark haired woman that usually waits on customers is one of the coldest, unfriendliest people I have ever met. On more than one occasion she served as a test on how badly I wanted a...

    Recommendations for inexpensive wines

I love Malbecs, especially Trapiche Broquel Malbec, but recently discovered Super Tuscan wines. Aia Vecchia Lagone is in the $15 -20 range and has an after taste that reminds me of bourbon. I don't know, but maybe it is aged in bourbon barrels. Another one I have tried and liked is Fattoria...

Looking for affordable dress wrist watches

I bought this Circa 1930's square watch from J. Peterman. I liked it so much I bought a second one this time for Amazon because Peterman no longer advertized it. I had the band changed to black and wear it with my tuxedo. It was about $120.

Absolutely timeless, classic, tasteful and conservative cufflinks?

I consider the double knot (gold) cufflinks as a traditional style. I wear them when I want to convey that impression.

    BRACES (SUSPENDERS)

I try to match the leather attachment ears to my shoes, which is only a problem when I wear burgundy shoes. I don't wear patterned suspenders with a patterned shirt and I do try to coordinate the colors. Of course if I am not taking my jacket off it doesn't matter as much.

Where did your user name come from??

"The Warlord of The Weejuns" was the title of liner notes for a Miles Davis album written by Esquire fashion writer George Frazier. I liked the title and the essay. I like weejuns also and just the thought of those shoes in the context of a warlord was just too much. Try to visualize that as a...

Shoe shine:Do your own or take out??

I use cream instead of paste. The guy that repairs my shoes says cream is much better for the leather and does not recommend paste at all, ever. The shine looks just as good, I can't tell the difference. Otherwise I would love to have someone give me a shine at a stand, but I haven't found...

    Drinks and Cigars in Film

I love to watch Jason Robbards pensively play with his cigar in the scene from Sam Peckinpah's Pat Garrett & Billy The Kid. You can tell he knows and enjoys a good cigar. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=cEby4rCDc4Y

Hospital etiquette (and general hat etiquette)

As a general rule I remove my hat whenever I go in doors. Exceptions would be shopping malls or large stores.

    Silk Tuxedo Shirts

Thanks. I was reading something about James Bond and it mentioned his preference was for heavy silk tuxedo shirts. So Turnbull & Asser makes sense.
