I couldn't help noticing this week that Peggy didn't keep Lew in the loop when she began rethinking her campaign. I can almost see the trap that Don is falling into — where he is made to look as though he is not 'sticking to the script', though in fact he is simply trying to present Peggy in the...
Just finished reading Free Fall by William Golding. Great book! Picks up aspects of British life just before and after WWII that I knew little about, such as the pervasive Bolshevism. This featured in my own family since my great grandfather was a dedicated English Bolshevik, who managed to...
I just read this thread through (all 30 pages!) and there was no answer to a query made right at the outset: were the Luftwaffe jackets all or mostly in black? Did the powers that be say to the pilots: "sure, buy your own jacket, spend as much as you like --- just so long as it's black!"? Or...
That Albert Richard jacket is just amazing. I have an Albert Richard horsehide from slightly later (maybe 50's) and it is one of my favourites. Incredibly comfortable and well worn in. But the colour of yours is the bomb.
Personally I find modern books to be a let down, in terms of design and physical materials. I suspect we have been 'tenderised' for the coming iPad world by having books made less attractive, step by step. But classic books cannot be beat and I find myself turning into a collector.
I recently saw for the first time — don't know how I missed seeing it for so long — The Two Mrs Carrolls. Great acting (as you'd expect) from Barbara Stanwyck — and some nice sharp dialogue along the way. Bogart chews up the scenery.
I think this is bad news. Linseed oil polymerises — and in the sun, quite quickly. That's why it's used in oil painting. And as it polymerises it will stiffen, until the jacket will be unwearable. Of course turpentine will dissolve it — but then it will also take off the colour. Soap may be your...
I bought her albums on the back of multiple recommendations, as I like the era she was mining. But I truly hated all the CD's. I will never play them again. It's hard to see why they fail so badly, but fail they do.
Duffy's album is what I thought Winehouse's was going to be like. But unlike...
Last night I watched Zack and Miri make a Porno. It was terrible. Kevin Smith may once have been able to go down some low avenues and still retain some charm, but not this time, not here. A lot of swearing — so that it no longer sounds "real", just try-hard, and a really bad romantic premise. It...
I just watched a documentary called Spitfire Women about the female pilots who flew in WWII. All of the English pilots (men and women) shown seem to be wearing ties; the U.S. pilots (flying British planes) are sometimes seen not to be wearing ties. Of course a lot of the shots are staged...
I hope you don't mind if a stranger adds his 2 cents.
IMO the jacket is the right length, and not too short at all. One of the reasons classic style jackets look "short" is that they were designed for a time when a man's pants were worn damned high. Classic jeans or cargo pants did not sit on...
