I totally missed this post LuvMyMan - what a lovely thing to read on a Saturday morning! We went to thrift shops last week and got 2 awesome silk Hawaiian shirts and a couple very mid-century geometric print ones for him and he looooooves them. He gets so excited about picking out his outfits...
Hats are a great idea. He has one felt fedora he got from a vintage shop but I think it is a little small. He has a big head lol. I have the same issue with vintage gloves and shoes. Why were people so tiny!!! But I love the idea of a straw Panama for summer! He would rock that.
He has LOTS of marvelous tweed jackets - they are so easy to find at thrift stores... no more room in the closet lol! He also has a great pair of thrifted leather dress shoes and I want to get him a pair of leather boots for his birthday. He really wants a good pair of trousers to wear dressed...
I should mention that in modern jeans he wears a 34x34. I assume that is because the waist is so much lower and crotch a tighter, higher fit, resulting in a larger waist measurement going over the tummy and shorter inseam because of the lower starting point....
Hey!
Posting on behalf of my husband who is looking for his first pairs of vintage trousers. Hoping for something that is a summer weight and material but anything is really fine. He likes the pleated front styles, and measurements are as follows (I took his measurements but am new to the world...
That info on water based pomade is insanely helpful and not something I saw on the other threads. Thank you!
And thx for the links - I will need a few hours to go through all that info! ;)
To everyone that helped me with learning about rise and inseam measuring; after he had me take his measurements today, we think that because of the higher rise and (forgive the phrase, please, Mr Two Types ) lower crotch measurement when compared to modern jeans, a 31" inseam should be about...
I'm sorry that phrase made it seem that way; to me it simply indicated that his outside will finally be reflecting his insides! He has decided he really likes vintage fashion and wants to give it a go, and wants to learn about vintage fashion; while I don't think he cares too much about perfect...
I know there are posts about men's vintage haircuts and they will be invaluable; but since you all were so helpful answering my questions about helping my man build a vintage wardrobe and find his style; one thing that must happen is period appropriate hair. He has already tried the...
You guys are so awesome. Truly! I am giddy over all this fabulous information. Gonna order that book (totally vintage; cars from 1992 now qualify as vintage. True story!) And those less expensive repro shops will be perfect; I don't want to spend too many loads of time custom drafting and...
Hi!
I am a long time lurker and first time poster :) love love love tthis forum! And it was the first place that came to mind when I started having questions about men's vintage clothing.
I have done the retro/vintage clothing thing for several years and was super excited the other week when...
My now husband proposed just over a year ago with a Victorian opal ring similar to my mother's. Opals are soft, so after a year of wear I lost one stone and chipped the other :eusa_doh: His mother gave him her mother's 1942 diamond engagement ring and a band of small diamonds to give to me...
