    Seltzer Siphons?

Friends, a chum of mine just switched me on to seltzer water (at a grand old age of 35 I seem to finally be liking new things). Now, the iconography from vintage movies of a gent making a whiskey and soda from a decanter and soda siphon is irresistible. Do any of you use these? How do they...

Gentlemen - Delicate Question Regarding Bathroom Decor

Friends, I recently visited Little Branch in Manhattan, a rather fine vintage style underground establishment with excellent cocktails and live jazz. The gentleman's room had an interesting touch of decor - a brass device attached to the seat, with which one could lift the lid with ones...

Can you mix and match tuxedo jackets and trousers?

Friends, I own a tuxedo that I am very happy with, however, I would like to switch out the jacket for a special occasion, to a tailed jacket. These jackets on their own are very affordable and I could save a considerable amount by buying the jacket alone and matching it to a pair of trousers...

Etiquette Question – Wedding and Funeral on the Same Day

A good friend of mine is attending an AM funeral service at the weekend , but then has to travel to a wedding in the early evening. He wants to know if it’s appropriate to wear the same suit, and if so, what would be the most apporiate colour to wear? Is it OK to wear a black suit to a summer...

Gentleman - Storing laundry while traveling

At 33 I should probably know this already, but I'm curious what all the chaps here do with their used clothes while traveling. Is there a certain kind of bag one should use to separate it from the unworn garments? Advice welcome!;) David

Lock & Company Fur Trilby, JoS A Bank Tie

Friends, I recently inherited a large collection of vintage clothes from the father of a friend. I was instructed to sell what I can't wear so I've decided to dip my into the water. First up, a Lock & Company trilby, size 7 1/8...

    Advice needed - feds/upturned brim

Although I tend not to wear black fedoras, this look caught my eye. What would everyone's advice be about selecting a fedora to wear with the brim up? I normally wear a fed IV style hat but I don't think this would look quite right. Advice welcome!

For Sale - Federation IV Hat in Brown

Size 58 in brown. I got this and wore it perhaps a half dozen times but to be honest it looks too small on me, so I'm selling to trade up a size. No wear or damage on the hat inside or out. $85 shipped in the US. Many thanks!

    WTB - Moonstone Fed IV

Gentlemen, before I go to Hatsdirect for my next lid, I wondered if anyone here is thinning out their hat collection and has a 'moonstone' Federation IV, size 59, that they'd like to part with. If so, do let me know. David

Matching a hat shade to a suit

I'm just curious what everyone thinks about coordinating a suit with a hat. Do you buy hats to match your suits? I'm quite tempted by a Fed IV in Moonstone, but all my grey suits are darker, towards a Carbon Grey, and I'm worried it might look odd. Thoughts?

Vintage Swimwear - Toweling Trunks from Goldfinger

Toward the start of Goldfinger, Connery wears a pair of blue swimming trunks and matching gown which appear to be made of a toweling material. Were these a fashion at the time? Does anyone know of a manufacturer who still makes these? Any clues welcome!

    Stupid question about gunbelts :-)

So I've decided to upgrade my Indy outfit from 'ok for halloween' to something more screen accurate, and I realised that I don't actually know how one goes about wearing a gunbelt. Presumably you don't thread it through the beltloops...and how do you size the belt to get that 'low slung' look? I...

Is it possible to tailor a heavy overcoat?

I found a heavy, almost woolen overcoat in a thrift store - it's a beautiful piece with epaulets. I'm a 38, and the coat is a 40, and does indeed seem to big. How easy (and how expensive) do you all think it would be to have it taken in. Is it even possible? Thanks for your advice.

    Washing light-colored/adventurer clothes

Tangential from a thread on Club Obi Wan about an Indy/Adventure shirt, just curious about the kind of care people give to their safari gear. I wash my whites and darks separately, of course, but what about those fawn coloured clothes, somewhere in the middle? Don't want them to darken, but...

Tie bars - yes, no, and how high?

Do you all enjoy wearing these? Some people really seem to hate them. Also, where should you position the bar? Is it acceptable to have it showing over the top of a buttoned waistcoat? Thanks in advance for your advice!

    Wearing a wristwatch with pocketwatch

What does everyone think about wearing both of these in the same outfit? It just feels wrong, somehow. But then, the pocketwatch could be seen as decorative, and the wristwatch worn for utility. Opinions welcome!

    Looking for summer wear ideas

Traditionally I've always had a wardrobe full of heavy, dark clothing, and I love the autumn and winter. I really suffered through the heat last summer though and vowed never again! The place of work leans toward smart casual so I've got a lot of wiggle room to dress for the summer with a bit of...

A couple of foolish questions about fountain pens

I own several of these - the current favourites being my Mont Blanc and my Pelikan. Unfortunately, they always seem to have ink where the finger rests when uncapped. Messy and embarrassing. Is there a way to prevent this? Also, is it polite to offer a fountain when someone is looking for a...
