Toby's jacket looks very much like the old Monarch or Hercules work jackets. I have a late 30's-early 40's horsehide Monarch that looks almost identical.
Whatever you do, don't baby your repro stuff too much - in the end it is just repro denim. Here's a pair of my first LVC '47 501XX. Sure, they've been washed in cold water a half dozen times using mild detergent and never seen the inside of a dryer, but I've worn the hell out of them over the...
I'll never stop wearing denim work wear - at least as long as they continue to make decent reproductions of the classic Lee or Levi's jeans since I can't afford or find vintage denim in my sizes. Here's a photo of a pair of well worn LVC Japan reproductions of the 1955 501XX with an original...
Used to own a RMNZ redskin B-6 that was leftover wardrobe from Band of Brothers. It was a beautiful jacket but I found myself reaching for the D-1 or B-10 instead so I sold it a couple years ago.
Cobden,
Amazing Irvin you got for yourself. Looks like it's in practically new condition.
It's difficult being an Irvin fan here in the states as they are so few and far between except on UK ebay.
Congratulations and enjoy the Irvin this winter,
Grant
Hi Bill,
You're certainly right that replacing knits should be a pretty simple job most competent tailors could handle, but I've seen too many botched knit replacement jobs where the waist knit was installed with not enough tension so the jacket just droops, or installed too tight so the jacket...
Hi,
I had the knit waist and cuffs replaced on one of my original Bronco A-2s using a set of knits from RMNZ. The sleeve on the left is an original knit from a Bronco horsehide , the one on the right is the RMNZ replacement knit from a goatskin Bronco. I think the new knits that RMNZ are using...
Hi George,
Even though my RW is tagged a sz. 44 it's about an inch shorter in the torso and 3/4" inch trimmer in the chest than a standard sz. 44 from RMNZ. I asked Paddy about the size difference when I recieved your russset goat RW and she thought my jacket might have originally been intended...
Geroge and Paddy,
I guess the three of us make for a true band of brothers. Attached is a photo of my Roughwear which was surplus wardrobe from the series returned to RMNZ after shooting was completed. Grant
The Buzz khaki trousers are better than good, they're a virtual clone of WWII issue khaki trousers. However, if you're in the 32 - 36 waist size it's still possible to get wartime khaki trousers on ebay for not alot of money (I just bought a pair of un-issued 1944 khakis (sz. 36 x 34) for $50)...
Congratulations on getting an Irvin. i've managed to collect a couple of them over the years and am always amazed how warm they are. Here's a couple photos of one mine - original owner was with the RCAF.
Paddy has a nice original as well as an ELC Irvin I believe.
Grant
My buddy on the left is sporting an old ELC russet horsehide house jacket and I'm wearing my seven year old RMNZ russet horse Dubow. Sorry for the blurry photo and the tough guy new yorker poses.
WWII KHAKI TROUSERS
A good friend of mine was able to get me a pair of the Buzz Rickson 1942 khaki trousers from Japan. These are probably the finest reproduction khaki trousers I've seen since I bought a pair of the old MASH M-41 trousers. From the metal US Army button fly, spot on beige/...
