Hey guys, new to the forum, though I've been a visitor at Indygear for all you COW members out there. Of course, there I was known as IndyCoil.

Anyway, I'm in the market for a decent panama hat. Nothin' too fancy, just a white fedora style with a black ribbon, preferrably with the tilted up rear brim and a nice crisp shape to it (meaning I don't want to be able to roll it up.) I don't want to spend much more than $50 dollars for it, however.

Now I've checked the posts here and one sight offered a Cuenca Highland hat, and it was certainly in my price range, however I was afraid that it either didn't have the solid feel I was looking for, or that it was not the right color and a rather loosely woven hat (as in you can see through some of the weaves).

I've checked ebay of course and a few vendors offered panama hats that, as displayed, were exactly what I was looking for. But of course, it's Ebay, and you get what you pay for, so my question to you hat guru's out there is: are these ebay auctions worth it for someone who just would like a cheap, decent looking panama hat?

I've provided the links to the auctions in question, but if I'm not allowed to post ebay auctions, my sincerest apologies.

Thanks in advance for any help you fellas can offer.

Cheers,

The last one on your list looks the best to me. I have a feeling that this guy knows his stuff and can possibly be trusted ;)

Most of the Ebay hats are not Montecristi hats they are "Cuenca". We have Panamabob here. Hundreds of us if not thousands of us wear his Real Montecristi Panama hat.He has fine hats a great blocker here or in Ecudor!!

I'm sure you knew that!! ;)

He sells on ebay also http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2281431808&rd=1&sspagename=STRK:MEWA:IT&rd=1

If you are a lounge member he will give you a special price and the finest hat you can afford and excellent customer service I have found. I own 12 and have a few more on order. As they say I tried the rest but found the best right here at this Lounge!!

Click on search and read about this fine Montecristi hat vendor.

You can pay more but you will get less! A high Price does not mean you bought the best! It means you bought the story. I call it Hype some call it BS. Most of the Real Montecristi hat sellers mark there hats of 1000 % or more. Our Panamabob supports the weavers not the sellers!!!!!!!!!!!!!

{Buy the hat not the story}

Oh! Glad you found us this is a Class Lounge :)

I guess you didn't get my hint. As far as I know the last ebay link ( the one that I recommended) IS our own PanamaBob . If I am wrong, please correct me.

Yeah, that is me...but honestly...deal with me directly for better hats. The ebay hats are ebay hats....can't explain that enough.

They are made by younger, more inexperienced weavers....which, bingo!, cost less.

Are the hats you're selling on special (e.g., $99 for 500 weave) ebay hats, made by younger more inexperienced weaves, or are they made by more experienced weavers?
