Any thoughts on these jackets

I bought a couple of jackets the other day and would welcome your thoughts on a couple of questions I have and possible origin.

I think they are probably from Europe, not the UK unfortunately the labels have been removed from both.

The first is a very soft wool, so soft it is piling in places, however it looks hand stitched with working cuffs and some stange looking horn buttons. I think it was probably bespoke as the arm holes are smaller than in a ready made. I would be interested to know what you think the wool could be?

The other jacket I'm pretty sure is suede in a very bright blue and again appers to be handstitched, links to pictures are below. The buttons appear to be brass and not plated and have an inscpition around them though I'm not sure what language
'Ausde Bucherie Von Ernr Riereling'.

I must say that I find suede blazers a little horrifying except on women and even then... I can't think of them in anything more positive than a neutral light. The language on the buttons is German, but whether it was actually made in Germany or not is impossible to learn without labels and so on.

The first jacket is quite nice, if a little loud perhaps. It could be a tweed of some kind. The houndstooth pattern wouldn't be offensive as long as it was paired with plain trousers in black or gray.

Thanks,

They came as a pair from ebay for £1.24! I agree about the suede, I've not seen anything like it before.
The first jacket looks like a tweed pattern however the material is very soft and has started to bobble, liks a cashmere jumper does.

With the material being that soft and behaving as you've described, it may be a wool/cashmere mix. My grandad's jackets that have cashmere in them tend to do that. Is there no material label inside of a pocket perhaps?

The label has been removed unfortunately so no clue as to maker or fabric.

I think it might be a real suede, as bad as that is, it is possible to see where the facings are stitched together.

The blue one just screams "70's!!!!!!!!". Not that that's a bad thing. But you'll need white patent leather platform shoes and maroon and white checkered bell bottoms to go with it. And a frilly front shirt and 37 color polyester tie.

Hi all,

Thanks for the comments, the hounds tooth jacket was the one I wanted, the blue suede was a 'bonus' however you never know when a 70's night will come up, just need to source those sideburns now!!!

One the matter of the wool hounds tooth, is it worthwhile trying to remove the piling or is it best left alone?

I would leave it alone. I myself like both jackets and if they fit, would wear them. Of the two, I like the checked one the best.
