I won this just last night.

I could tell from the numbers that it wasn't a sportshat and given the vintage which looks close to what the seller was claiming, I found a website that lists the serial numbers of all military aircraft since 1908:

http://home.att.net/~jbaugher/usafserials.html

Going on the presumption that "2316" are the last four digits of a certain aircraft, I identified an EB-47E (TT), electronic intelligence gathering B-47, serial number 53-2316, "53" referring to the year the order for the plane was placed, and "2316" the specific aircraft.

Also, the serial number page indicates it was a conversion to an intelligence gathering plane which leads me to believe it had a life as average B-47 at Dyess AFB in the 7th Bomb Wing/430th Bomb Squadron.

Review of all possible serial numbers from the first web site indicated that "2316" was a number assigned to a trainer, a helicopter, or this B-47. Assuming it is the B-47, and intelligence gathering planes had larger crews than your average bomber, and that the crews, ground and air, often wore caps with portions of serial numbers on them to identify the plane to which they were assigned , (for example, this clip showing Karl Malden observing a B-52 take-off), I'm convinced of the cap's history, to a point.

I am pretty well convinced that this hat is connected to that EB-47E (TT) serial #53-2316. The plane ended up stationed at Incrilik, Turkey. Since the hat came from a now defunct Texas sporting goods store, I feel pretty confident it was related to Dyess AFB. The story so far.
