Buy estate pipes that are dead stock (never smoked, never used, pristine). There are plenty around.

Wait; I thought "estate pipes" meant used, chewed, gnawed, slobbered on, smoked, etc? Purchased from some pipe smoker's estate?

Not necessarily smoked. Some people buy pipes (or are given them as gifts) and never end up smoking them. Sort of like those Father's Day ties that live in drawers for 50 years.


Nearly all of the time, a pipe that's advertised as "estate" is one that's been used by its previous owner(s). But what of a pipe that was not used by a former owner? Well, that's a bit trickier to categorize. In essence, it's dead stock; but since it came from a home, and not a store or warehouse, it is a type of estate pipe. At least, that's how I understand it. Opinions to the contrary are welcome, as always.
