I just thought this was a cool ad from 1945.

Good question - I found these two sites that state that the day is the 15th of September, regardless of the day of the week. They hardly seem authoritative, and neither knows the origin - it would be interesting to know which manufacturer manufactured this 'holiday' to spur fall sales....

Great ad, Rusty!

What I really love about it though, is that it answers the question about where "Imperial" fell on the Stetson quality/marketing scale. So, looks like, in 1945, "Imperial" occupied the slot right above Royal Stetson DeLuxe, at $15.00. At some point, probably by the early 50's, "Imperial" gave way to the "3X" designation, which was similarly priced.
