(Note to Bartenders: I have posted this here in the WWII forum as I think browsers of this forum will be more interested generally than those over in the Moving Picture forum)


I am absolutely thrilled to hear that a movie based on the life of Charles Upham is in production. For those not in the know, Upham was a Kiwi soldier in WWII who is the only combat soldier ever to be awarded the Victoria Cross twice. His courage was legendary and his exploits beggar belief. He is considered by many historians as the outstanding individual soldier of the War.

I'm really looking forward to this and Upham's feats would make fantastic viewing. I just hope they do the man justice as he has almost mythic status here in NZ.

Sadly I think this one has been shelved. Fingers crossed that someone makes this eventually as Upham's bravery is beyond belief and deserves the big screen treatment.

Why is New Zealand's famous director, Peter Jackson, not making a movie about his couragous countryman? I guess computer generated fairies and big apes are more up his alley.
