Karl Halfmann Melone

Karl Halfmann Melone, 1930s or older. It has some ribbon and binding damage but very high quality. Also really like the unique golden liner.

Mystery Melone

This Bowler (Melone) doesn't have any company mark but probably of German orgin. The felt might have some wool content and is on the softer side which makes it very wearable. The sweatband is made of 3 parts which I have never seen before and is hand stitched. Based on the construction (similar to my Lembert Rieser) I would say 1920s or older.

Wow, interesting sweatband. Is this the original or do you think it was a home-made repair job? Have you seen any other unreeded sweats sewed in by hand?
Thanks for posting these cool hats!

Jaunty, Thanks! :)

It might have been machine done with some hand repair at a latter date. I have a couple similar examples of this type of non-reeded sweatband on Bowler type hats (see one below).

Regarding the 3 part sweatband. It looks like the same type of sweatband but with a different tone. There is a chalk mark "56" behind the sweatband so maybe it was changed to a larger size (measures around 58cm) by the maker.

Similar stitched non-reeded sweatband on a ATEHA Clerical Melone.

Similar non-reeded sweatband but the stitching is different on this Melone like Lembert Rieser. Also has very similar felt.

I was recently given a Mayser Padua as gift and I am not able to find out much about this hat online...was wondering if any members who follow this thread could shed some light. The hat was bought as "new" from a local hat shop and it is surprisingly quite nice in quality...the felt is good quality and the hat takes a shape nicely! Thanks for any info or insights!!:)

Mayser is still in business and still makes good quality felt hats although in modern crown styles. I don't believe they are making any of their own felt and if they are it is in very limited runs. You might be able to find the hat model on their website. I have some catalogs but would have to search around. I also have a good contact at Mayser if you need specific info just send me a PM. Here is a link to a bunch of Mayser info.

Negretti Adonis Melone

Negretti Adonis Bowler (Melone). I am thinking 20s could be older. It has an Italian name but made in Germany or Austria. Measures around 59cm but looks like it was stretched. Very nice quality.

This logo is pure Art/Nouveau/Jugendstil with its curving lines and flowers
It even imitates the hand hammered metal look commonly applied to decorative objects

This is a WMF tray typical of the style from around 1910.
Pretty much common from late 1880's until WWI. Logos can obviously persist beyond their origins.
