I have a custom natural, Sahara, and granite. I like them all because they are mid-tones and go with many different wardrobe color combinations. I tend to wear the lighter Sahara in the spring and fall. My biggest challenge is with pecan - not grey, not brown, it just does not match much of my personal clothing colors.

I thought pecan was a shade of brown.

Thank you so much!! That is very helpful. I am leaning to the pecan and possibly the granite. I will ask about the granite. If I pick the granite, I would prefer the shade that has the brown undertones.

All of the colors vary from one dye batch to the next. You’re also up against the natural variations on how people see colors. One person will see green undertones in the same felt that others don’t see any green...just as an example. Then there’s the differences of how monitors/screens portray colors. Unless you can visit the hatter in person, the best you can hope for is a close approximation of the color you’re after.

I really hope that VS continues the tradition of offering special colors.

Check before you order. The brown toned Granite is a rabbit and the greyer one is full beaver. It may be due to the different animals or just variation of the Winchester dye lots.

I am completely enamored with the natural felt. I have 2 natural felt hats from 2 different hatters and I love them both.

My pecan fedora is actually one I think of as going well with most anything... brown leather jacket, brown sports coats, green union jacket, my black vest, etc....

Just goes to show how people see colors differently.

I feel the pecan color would go with anything I wear. Have you posted pictures of your pecan hat? Thank you, David

There’s a new felt supplier, the Millinery Warehouse, and a representative introduced himself here a couple weeks ago. His fur felt is all 100% rabbit and is sourced from the Ukraine, and he claims it’s much superior to the current rabbit fur felt being offered by Tonak.

Not a huge selection of colors, but some interesting ones. Due to the pandemic etc., not a lot currently in stock, but I was told that more is on its way. I’ve got a 180gram western in bottle green on back order.

And some of the colors I found most interesting:

And more of “my” bottle green:

Dress weights and western weights as well as some velour finishes. The prices are right...and did you see the color of that bottle green!

When it comes to flamboyance, you can't get much louder than the shirts that Tina has made for me. That love of striking colour extends to the smallish collection of summer blazers, add to that, neck ties, bow ties and shoes. Tina also made me a selection of baggy trousers, some of which, increase the sales of sun glasses.

How odd then that my hats are all, what you might call, a conservative colour. The recent Nutmeg Fedora is about the nearest I get to anything like a bold colour. Maybe the Silverbelly that's on the waiting list might be described as bold. The rest of my hats are all of a dark hue, except one, that's a sky blue hat that Esther made to match a suit of similar colour. Otherwise I have dark green, dark grey, navy, black and so on.

My summer straws are all bright colours yet apart from the Esther's blue hat, all my felt hats are dark(er.) Am I so self conscious about hat colour? There's two colours that I would love to buy, rather than describe them I can show you.

The blue is known as: "Kingfisher," the red is more a: "Burgundy."
The Kingfisher was a cancelled order, I kept thinking about it and when I finally made up my mind to go for it, I got cold feet at the time of purchase and bought this instead.
