Trying to get hold of a good quality photo of this picture used on the front of the new book, "Jimmy Stewart, Bomber Pilot." It shows him as Ops Officer at Old Buckenham Airfield in England during WWII.

I'm currently reading the book, but it seems to be padded out with lots of info not really related to Jimmy Stewart, and therefore shows that it wasn't done via interviews with Jimmy when he was alive, which is a major shame. I'd like to know more about what his thoughts, feelings and observations were as an officer in the AAF. So the info on him is rather superficial, told through the reflections and recollections of others, rather than the man himself.

This pic from Life Mag, shows him following his return to home town of Indiana, Pa. Rising from private to full colonel in four years is pretty good going!!

Paddy,

Sorry I can't help with the photo your looking for. You know there are a lot of people out there that just don't realize what Jimmy Stewart accomplished outside Hollywood.

First of the Hollywood actors to go into the service. I believe he signed up before Pearl Harbor. Lots of people don't realize he went on to serve in the reserves after WW2 all the way through to Vietnam flying a few B-52 missions during Rolling Thunder. I believe he lost one of his sons in Vietnam too.

I would like to find a good JPEG of Jimmy I've seen of him wearing an L-2B after a B-52 mission over Vietnam. I believe it was his last mission before retiring.

Good luck with your search Paddy. :cheers1:

Is that his dad ?
Yep. The photo was taken at the family hardware store in Indiana, Pennsylvania.

Jimmy's Oscar (The Philadelphia Story) sat on display in the window of the same store for 25 years, from the night he won it until the day his father passed.
