How should straw boater hats fit?

How should a straw boater hat fit on your head?
also if we are on the subject on things fitting on heads, are fedora's supposed to not go all the way on your head just kinda a bit above the ears?

I don't know about boaters. With fedoras, I personally like them to sit just above my ears. Some people like them to sit higher, but I don't care for that look on me.

Like many things, a lot of it is just personal preference.

When I wear my Boater it sits about ⅜"-½" above my ear, depending on my degree of hat tilt.
