How to dye a felt hat?

For this year's San Diego Comic Con, I am very seriously considering attending as Will Eisner's vintage pulp hero The Spirit. I need to find a blue hat, but most times, they don't come in the proper blue that I want. I was going to buy a white wool felt zoot suit hat at The Village Hat Shop and either dye it blue, or color it blue with a blue highlight marker. I'd prefer the former, so I was wondering if anyone here had ever dyed a hat before, and how one goes about doing it? Thanks.
