Here's a pic of my gray Statoliner for comparison.

Also, here's my brown one. It actually has the wind trolley on it.

Well, now that you mention it, I guess it does. I always looked at it as an off brown but could never put my finger on it as to what was different than my other brown fedora's.

Actually that's my Dobbs 2 Ouncer. It's much much lighter weight than my Stratoliner. By the way JP, thanks for helping me get set up with Photobucket so I can post pics. Except now my youngest daughter took off to Guatemala with the digital camera for 2 months, so I either have to wait till she comes back to take more pics or buy another camera.

Man, you're good, JP. I have one, and it's one of my favorite hats. It has a great look to it. This one is a light grey in very good condition with the exception that the leather sweatband fell apart, and I need to replace it. Know where I can find leather sweatbands?
I don't have a Stratoliner yet, but I sure like the ones pictured.

Not really all that good. I have one and it is one of my favorite hats as well. It is light but not too light and the color is very light. Here you go:

Does yours look anything like mine? I know mine does not look like the advertisement you have but they also had Gamebird mixtures that came in many different colors.
For instance there is the 1935 Gamebird Mixtures ad:

DOBBS-Gamebirdmixtures1935.jpg

And the 1949 Gamebird Double Barreled Prize ad:

I like them all but was only able to find a few. :kick: ;)

My Game Bird

Here is my Game Bird. I believe it's an early one. Hope the pics come out this time. I love it, but like a lot of things I love...it needs some work.

The color is best shown in pic 2.

Please help bring my vintage Game Bird back to life...where can I fine a new leather sweatband?

Very nice. You have the 1947 Dobbs Gamebird with the original self ribbon. Very stylish and avante garde for the time. Not many of them still exist.
Mine is just a bit older than yours WWII era. During the war the hats were made without liners to save material for military needs. They also had to make do with regular ribbons. The edge on mine has a double stitch that goes all the way around.
The sweatband is another story. If you are going to attempt to replace it yourself, the best bet is to contact a hatter here and see if they have a sweatband that they can sell you. I would probably advise to simply have them replace it for you. It is not an easy job and they can clean and reblock your hat for you while they are at it. Although your hat looks in good shape as it is, you might be surprised what a good going through can do for it.
Here is another ad you might not have seen:

Like it says: "You can't Miss its the Gamebird!"

JP, Thanks for the great ads on the Gamebird. I appreciate the advice about having it reblocked, and I would like to do that. However, I have heard lots about Art, who is indisposed at this time, and I have no one locally...unless someone knows someone in Arkansas who can do this. I would appreciate any referrals.

fedoralover, I love your Stratoliners, and hope to have one some day. Guess ebay is the way to go, as I do lots of bidness there, and I will be bidding with you'all for one of those, as well as a nice Borsalino.

I can hear the groans... ;)

I am just piling up a stack of hats that are waiting for Art's attention when he gets back into it. I can always wait for the right hatter. :)
