Suede oxfords with crepe sole - ideas?

I'm still in the market for pair of suede oxfords, preferably dark brown--either solid brown or with wingtip stitching--with lightweight, comfortable rubber "crepe" soles.

First question: What is the period appropriateness of these shoes? When were they first worn historically, and with what kind of attire?

Second question: Do you have additional suggestions to add to my list of contenders?

My feet are on the wide side, if that makes a difference.

I think these have also been called bucks.

Those are rubber soles, not crepe which is the stuff you find on desert boots. I'd wear white bucks with a suit (think seersucker) but the other colors are more casual, maybe sportcoat and khakis/jeans. Oh, and they've been around since the 30s at least.

Here is a nice looking budget-minded pair. Rocksport Almartins. Also rubber soled, not crepe.

And I think I also saw a similar style by Cole Haan, but it might have been another brand. Anyway these are wingtips. I had seen them recently at Marshall's, but wound up buying a nice pair of Cole Haan white bucks instead. But I was very tempted by the Rocksports, as well.
