Thank you for finding that pic, Jake! I couldn't find anything, so I appreciate that you did! There is another picture of Deveny in a buggy taken profile or portrait style up close & from the side. I was probably thinking of William F. "Doc" Carver when I was misremembering Deveny as a doctor. Carver had been a dentist before he became a sharpshooter & trick-shot artist in Cody's Wild West show, thus the nickname "Doc".

I've saved the pic. Thanks again. See you later.

Right side of the receiver features detailed portraits of Buffalo Bill, Doc Carver, and Capt. A.H. Bogardus. Surrounding each portrait and embellishing the receiver is scrollwork reminiscent of the late 1800’s.

Left side of the receiver features portraits of Annie Oakley and Johnny Baker, as well as a scene of Buffalo Bill on his horse and Annie Oakley performing one of her special skills – firing over her shoulder with the aid of a mirror.

1870s.
Carver & his wife were the first to train & produce a high diving horse act. Carver's daughters (maybe grandchildren) still trained horses that performed high diving into a tank of water up until about 1970 when they stopped due to organizations like PETA.

Captain A.H. Bogardus,
Bogardus wrote a book on sharpshooting while living for a few yrs in SW Missouri near Springfield. The glass balls they would shoot were the same ones used as floats in fishing nets of the time. If you saw the TV Mini series "Wild Times" with Sam Elliott, "Doc" Bogardus was featured in it prominently played by Ben Johnson.

Please tell your friends that jake said "Howdy", especially to Annie & Calamity! :)
"Little Miss Sureshot" moved up to Deadwood, SD a few yrs back when she was hired by one of the casinos. She sang & danced, played the piano as a period Can-Can girl & worked as a dealer in the casino as Calamity Jane. I saw her a couple of times there during Sturgis wk. From there she moved on to Hollywood & I have since lost track of her.
