Is there any distinct difference between the open road and the stratoliner other than the price ebay buyers are will to pay

No distinct differences just the Strat seems to be 2.5" brim where ORs are all over the place. That & the obvious Stratoliner & Open Road or The Open Road on the sweatband.

Wormser Texan

I just bought a Wormser "The Texan" at the Pasadena City College flea market for $15. It has a 3" brim and a crown of probably 5 3/4" and is the whitest hat I own. Its definitely in the thin-ribbon Open Road category. The felt's very nice, and is designated "Royal Luxury."

As an aside, it does show how dirt can be misleading. This had black smudges on it and some brown ones as well but they brushed right out.

Anyone know anything about these? I don't see much on Wormser but its a great hat, even though it has a couple of moth divots. I know pictures would help, but my wife is still away and she has the camera.

Good point. Were these made by the "factories" like Lee made the hats for JC Penney?

Yep. Many men's stores sold hats this way. Brooks Brothers certainly did/does it with at least 3 or 4 brands.
See that cushioned sweat? Take a look at this Halle Brothers hat. At one point, Richman Brothers was based in Cleveland. The department stores probably ordered their hats from the same place.

Dobbs West was a different brand from Dobbs, so I'd put the Open Trail back under Dobbs West, to clarify things even more.
