On June 6, 2004, I met an American airman who was a navigator on the B-17 Luck of the Draw. His plane was shot down and he was imprisoned at Stalag Luft III and helped with the initial preparations for the Great Escape before the Americans were relocated - unfortunately they were relocated according to him before the preparations were even close to completion.

Such is life in WWII I guess...
