Welcome Bros. I hope you enjoy the Lounge.
As a way of introduction I don't think your post poses a problem. What I and all others in the biz need to keep in mind is the purpose of the Lounge, which is basically a Gentlemen's club ( OK, that was the start of it but now includes fine Ladies) where we can share ideas, research, opinions, and just general comraderie with others of similar tastes. I often use the Lounge as "sounding board" for my designs etc but for me it's more about keeping on the right track as to what people are looking for, what doesn't work, etc. and not how many hats I can sell. Sometimes I can add to the knowledge base and would encourage you to do the same.
Above all, have fun!!!

Welcome to the Lounge Duane,
I can't help much as far as a brick & mortor store for hats only but I CAN convey what my wife & I did in the vintage clothing biz, with hats being a large part. First, we participated in vintage clothing shows selling our merch, then we added a website & sold internationally, opened a store and developed a walk in biz. Now, none of the above alone would have done it, but in combination we were able to develop one of the largest stores in CA for true vintage. Hats have almost always been my specialty so when we decided to retire thats the only business we kept, sort of a spinoff of the clothing biz. In short, sweat, perserverance, and trying new ideas usually does the job.

Good attitude to have Duane. thats pretty much where I'm at in life. I live in the mountains of Southern Oregon after my entire adult life in biz in the San Francisco area. It did well for me, but now it's more about other things.

I'd wager that in a place like Custer, a guy could sell the tourists enough western hats during the summer months to pay the rent for the remainder of the year. People want to come home with souvenirs, and they tend to forget about frugality when they're on vacation.

Let us know if you make it happen, cuz if you do, I'll make a point of stopping by on my way to Wisconsin, the land of my youth and where I still have numerous relatives.
I love that Black Hills country. Had a buffalo burger in Custer once and wouldn't object to having another, and I look forward to seeing how Crazy Horse is coming along.
How 'bout carrying some cheap straws in kid sizes? I'm envisioning minivans with Indiana plates loaded down with camping gear and youngsters. And, of course, their parents, looking for a way to placate the cranky little buzzards. I've yet to encounter an 8-year-old who didn't want a cowboy hat.
Locate within a block of an ice cream parlor, and you'll have it made.

Hop on , this is a great ride

Hey, welcome to the Lounge. Nice to have ANOTHER hat vendor. The more the merrier, I say. No Bartenters snapping you with the bar towel..hahh.

Nice web site. I FIRMLY believe that it is VALUABLE to have MANY hat shops...to keep this product alive, and available.

We have CUSTOM hat makers, and "factory made" hat retailers..and everything in between. Specialists in the Indy hat, and those who love vintage, or the recreation of same. And the Optimo crowd. And some that do STRAW.

ALL ARE WECLOME!!
