The hats the Traditional Almish wear when they get married, what style is it?
I believe they are just called hats
I find Amish mens' styles fascinating mainly because there are plenty of examples of bearded men with hats and suspenders (just like me).
I found a web site that actually sells traditional handmade Amish/Mennonite hats, and they just call them "hats" there. The hats on this web site are made of wool felt by the way. Still, they are pretty cool, and very tempting.
The Amish hats are not made of wool . They are made of fur felt by the Bollman Hat Company . There is a store in Lancaster PA called Irishtown Hats that sells them for 65.00. I was there over the summer .:cool2:
I doubt they all come from one source.
And by the way, they're called "Tourist Magnets" :cheers1:
Ahhh...Amish clothing being sold on the Internet. That could be the very pinnacle of irony.
I believe Amish Hats are called....
I know someone else had to be thinking the same thing...
Well yeah, when I hear 'amish' and 'hat' of course I think of him! And rubber hands, Bill Murray in a bad comb-over, etc..
I grew up near an Amish community in Iowa. They didn't mind me taking photos. Here's a kid in his summer straw hat. He said he got it at Wal-Mart.
There's something that's just wrong about "Amish" clothing made of polyester.
There's an Amish comunity in Southern Maryland. I lived there at one time. They don't smoke but they sure do raise alot of tobacco.
Oh wow, check out the boot...it's black but it looks like a good black alternative for the Indy boot...I need to share this over at COW.
Yes, I think I may get some of them...I wonder what company makes them. Sure beats a $400.00 pair of Aldens.
The Amish hat sure looks like a basic "Boss of the Plains" hat. It was originally put out by Stetson.
Here's a fancier version put out by Rand's Hats
Then they were popularized as of late for the Single Action Shooter groups by Tombstone & Kurt Russell.
How's this for peace lovin'?
Tom Hirt made most of the hats for Tombstone. When I get enough money squirreled away I want the Johnny Ringo hat that Tom made. He says he can recreate it exactly.
I like them shirts and suspender britches too...
DJ, there's a great little children's book called "Boss of the Plains" about the story of John Stetson and his entreprenewal endeavors.
