WWII Hair Rules

I just had an argument with someone about this and need your expertise opinion to back me up: What were the standard rules for American females in uniform during WWII?

For most of the military services, British and American, it had to be off the collar, and not touching it. Alot of women had short hair (in curls of course!! or rolled it up at the back of the neck.
