WOW!! WONDERFUL hats this weekend, Gentlemen!!!! I missed so much while helping my brother move into our new building. I just picked out a couple that really caught my eye:

OK a few hats I wore today.
The Chief:
Borsalino031.jpg

I rarely wear this one but definitely one of my finest. Mint 1930s J. Hückel´s Söhne most likely Nutria.

In Times Square on Amelia's birthday

Brent Black Montecristi for me.

Jeff: I've never seen a panama bowler, but it looks GREAT on you!

Chief: You have some incredible hats and they all look wonderful on you. This one in the picture is by far one of my favorites.

Steve: That 1930s J. Hückel´s Söhne is just EXQUISITE and I'm in love with the color. The proportions are perfect and it looks great on you.

David: GREAT photo! That Brent Black Montecristi looks like a spectacular hat! :eusa_clap

Seabass: Not only is that one of the coolest pugs I've seen on a hat, but the whole outfit with sunglasses just looks so cool. Awesome look!

Will be posting some photos as soon as I figure out how to get around and do things here....Still reading the FAQ's and trying to learn how to navigate around.. Can anyone tell me if there is a way to save threads for quick access?

This is my first post (yay!).

Today I'm wearing my camel Stratton.

Welcome, and rest assured, most blossoms are edible. :)

Seabass, you look G-rrrrrrrrreaT!

Manfred, that Huckel stingy looks good on you. Not a good hat for a bright, sunny day, though, eh?

Thanks Josh, and to the others that commented on the BB Panama.

This one is an eBay find that was rather beaten up when it arrived here. I ended up giving the crown a good soaking and re-blocking it, adding the center crease instead of the original teardrop. I'm quite pleased with the results.

The hat isn't perfect, the sweatband is dry and split in one place and the straw itself has some damage in a couple of spots - I remember seeing a post (I think it was by Rabbit) about using some tape to strengthen the weave. I'll have to track that down.

Despite the issues, the hat is super comfortable to wear and I think it still looks pretty good. At the end of the summer, I might ask Tom Gomez to take a look and see if he can replace the sweatband - the ones he uses are way better then the rather thin one in the hat.

David, if you can't find any tape suitable for the job I'll be glad to send you some.

The tape of mine that you're referring to is used by painters to cover small cracks in the wall before painting over it. The material is based on glass fiber; it's very very thin and semi-translucent, almost colorless (white when rolled up in a bunch) and it has one sticky side. It's over two inches wide and can be cut in any way. No guarantees regarding potential acids permeating the tape eventually.

Edit:
RLK's recommendation for this type of repair job was to use Gummed Linen Hinging Tape like this one on amazon. The sticky side apparently works like a postage stamp and is assumed to contain no acids.
See also the thread Best way to repair a cracked panama.

I couldn't find anything analogous to this kind of tape here in Germany, so I used the above described tape with unknown glue solvent.

Thanks for the comments the other day gentlemen, I wish I could have responded in a more timely fashion. I worked on the fed's shape some more, wore it today. A poor pic. I need to get a linen cap for these windy days though.
