Also ironically, shortly after I posted this, my friend told me he read today, that they are discussing extending the sale of beer to midnight. I hope they do; I hate not being able to pick up beer on my way home from work.

Our state law allows alcohol sales until 2am, along with bars. So we can leave the bar at 1:30, hit the gorcery store (because yes, our local Wal-Mart, Hy-Vee, etc. can sell booze with the food) and get home by 2:00am loaded for the "after party".

That's the part I never got - why pay some kind of crazy $$$ to drink at a bar when you can get fuzzy at home?

I don't even mean to get drunk 97% of the time. I have a very low tolerance and I'm a fool for 101 Proof Wild Turkey on the rocks. Might as well stay home and listen to records, I say. [huh]

Well, like I say, the bar owners' lobby must be strong where you are. They probably make sure it stays as it is because they know well that their business would be cut easily in half if the hours were moved up to 2am.
The last time a friend of mine and I ran up a bar tab over $200 we knew well that it was time to stock a home bar. With that much money you can easily get started and keep going from there.
