I bought the Stetson Indiana Jones hat (the more expensive fur felt model, though strangely it had a cloth sweatband) available at the time of Temple of Doom in 1984.

Ironically, I had been collecting hats since I was a kid in the mid-sixties, and I had already owned a homburg, a derby, two top hats, and lots of other hats... but no fedora.

First wool was a Broner handed down from my dad when I was in elementary school (probably 4th or 5th grade); first fur felt in my size was the Akubra Federation IV in Moonstone Gray I bought from FL recommendations.

My first (and only fedora... right now) is my Borsalino Alessandria. I love it, but I am beginning to falter on the thought of putting it in the classifieds for something a bit taller & wider, lol

Two Biltmore Senators; one in chocolate, the other in navy. Purchased from a relic called Bond's of Beaverdale (old men's suiting store open nearly 100 years) in 2007. Two weeks later, the store was closed. A year later, the building was demolished and replaced by some cheap brick facade for a bar and gym combo.

(on a side note, the first suit I purchased was also in 2007 from the venerable Younkers flagship store in downtown Des Moines. It closed two days later. The 100+ year old building is still standing but vacant.)

My first hat was my grandfathers open road that I inherited from my Grandfather in 1971.

Other than one I wore as a child, a dark brown Stetson Ivey league with stingy brim I found in excellent condition at a local Salvation Army store for a $1.50..

Hi Folks

I purchased 2 cavanaghs this week on ebay and 1 on etsy and one from a fellow FL member however none have arrived just yet.
So whenever the first one hits my doorstep that will be my official fedora at the tender age of 56. I am looking forward to upgrading my look and also keeping my head warm this winter in style.

Sharp looking young man, great hat and suit. Clearly you were the best dressed boy on the block.
Speaking of the block, I love the old brick construction homes and great iron railings. Where was the picture taken? Year?

Speaking of the block, I love the old brick construction homes and great iron railings. Where was the picture taken? Year?

My father was a sharp dresser and often confused with being connected but of course he was'nt.

A quick check with Google shows the building are still there although they are now working their way down the block with siding , new windows and doors but the iron works are still there, amazing after all these years......
