Thanks Perry... it's a good winter featherweight, light by derby standards, but almost two times the weight of a Borso featherweight. It'll stay put. :)

Bravi! All nice today. Always nice to covet that Carmack... beauty of a playboy, too. I'm learning to sew today. Put the original ribbon back on this burgundy Dobbs state street and reworked the heck out of it trying to get it into a long oval. Some degree of success I think.

Jeff, Looks great!

I took Alan's lead and went with my old light weight PH. Möckel, Homburg vor der Höhe Melone. This has become my favorite stiff felt. PH. Möckel is the maker of the original Homburg hat for Edward VII of England.

Al, Great photos as usual! Really enjoyed seeing the lounging robes. Beautiful 30s Dobbs and Salvatore Balbi Borsalino "XX" 'Nutria' Homburg.

Sincere apologies for my belated thanks for your kind comments, Steve!

Al love the wooden duck's I am sure they are pricey.:)

Thanks, Ed. As with most things, there is a considerable range in desirability and consequently, price, based upon factors both objective and subjective. I would say that values for good American Folk Art such as waterfowl decoys and spearing/fish decoys have stabilized in the past few years.

Al, I see you have all your ducks (and hats) in a row. You also have a Doritos craving.

Where have heard that one before! lol

The Doritos were for the kids...really.

Looks like you are "over a barrel", Perry. Nice lid!

Al, that are fantastic photos as always, you know that, my friend. A great selection of stunning hats in the photos and you wear them with class!.
Are you a collector of wooden Ducks or what is it for a kult!

Thank you, Manfred, and rest assured that no baby animals or young maidens were sacrificed during our annual ritual! ;) lol Kidding aside, my friend, waterfowl decoys and ice-fishing/spearing decoys are a form of folk art quite unique to North America(with a few rare exceptions). There was a time when hunters hunted for the market and for sport, luring ducks and geese to their guns with "live", captive decoys(long since outlawed), or with decoys carved out of cedar, pine, and even balsa wood. The best of these decoys are avidly collected and prized for their history, artistic beauty, and rarity.

Always enjoy your hatted heirloom hunts, AL. In this set, I especially love the pinch-less Stetson Standard. I have a hard time pulling this off without grabbing the crown and spoiling the crown. Thanks for sharing your weekend with us.

Many thanks, Alan. These venerable old Stetson Standards are remarkable for their versatility. As you well know, the combination of quality, dense felt, moderate brim and flanging and tall crown makes it easy to wear the hat in many different ways.

Al, you are such a classy fellow. Sorry to be late on this bus! Your pictorial makes art out of everyday experiences in your life, and all I can say about that Stetson is that with it onhead, you have set the standard! Not too many Doritos, now.

Perry, I just might have to visit somewhere south of crazy just to imbibe from Davy Jones' watering hole. Thar be mighty dark and hoppy waters tonight, matey!

I'm not going to lie Mayser, I am insanely jealous of your collection of Melone's. The fact that we have the same dome size really doesnt help either haha.

It really is amazing how many variations on felts and finish the eastern european hatmakers were experimenting with on their melones, in a sea of black hats theirs really do stand above the rest in my eyes.
