The Sword and Fleur de Lis Logo was filed in 1957 and registered in 1958 but it could have been in use.

Thanks! I've often wondered that point. Even though we can see when certain logo's were filed and registered for trademarks, I often wonder how long before that point do companies use a logo. I guess there's no way of knowing for sure, but I've had a couple hats that used the Fleur de Lis and sword logo that, at least stylistically, seemed to be more towards the early to mid 50's verses the later 50's. The open road styles are hard to tell because that style remained unchanged for a long time.

These days when I estimate how long ago something happened, I usually guess twice what I think, multiplied by 1.5.

For rough dating hats, I'm thinking the inverse of that equation might be a good benchmark.

For accurate results, I am glad we have Robert and Brad and Vic.

Have kept a low profile because Photobucket STILL hasn't worked out the all the bugs and I can't easily resize my pictures, so apologies for the obnoxious size. But, joining in on the Fawcett Friday fun with my one and only (so far!) VS. High angle shot today; with the sun shining, you can see the decorative brim stitching.

Most Trademarks have a "First used in Commerce" date. Unfortunately the Resistol Logo referred back to the first use of the "Resistol Self-Conforming" text in '34.

Lookin' super cool with the shades and the VS, David!! That dark moss is really a great color.

Thanks, Josh. I agree, the Dark Moss is one of the nicest Winchester felts. Great buy with that Resistol, isn't great to get a "brand new" vintage hat?

David; Always apleasure to see the hat you showcase. Love the hat and the felt color. I need one like that! Hey, the beard trim is snazzy.

Thanks, Eric. Not sure how long the beard will be here, but so far so good.

Tom, Alan, Eric, David, winners all. Great hats, fellas.

Thanks a lot, Scooter. Hope you are ready for a great weekend!

Jeff - now there's a WAR!

Jared - fantastic VS, one of my favorites. The bright lighting brings out the red in the felt.

I tell ya, guys - after looking around the forum a little today and seeing the hating of modern life threads and the Aero PR hacks in full voice, it is nice to get back to the good people in the hat forum!

Thanks David, I'm really liking this one and get a lot of compliments around town with it. As best I can figure, even folks who don't know anything about hats can just tell that this is a nice one. I think that's the best testament to Art's work. With all of his hats you can tell that it's not an off the rack hat.

Thanks Manfred, and a definite +1 on all the other comments. I never tire of seeing the great array of headwear around here.

Shooting a wedding on the Cape today (promises to be interesting with the storm coming). Taking my Black Cherry Penman along although it might be a little windy for a fedora later on.
