Inside Pockets ? - One - Two - or None ?

My Dustbowl doesn't have any inside pockets, but the plain front looks the better for it. It's horses for courses, but I suspect the softer hides might not suffer the same problem as FQHH.

On the thick FQHH that Aero uses, inside pockets, particularly behind similarly placed outside pockets, equals BULK.

If, like say, PL, you like bulky jackets, then that is cool.

On the other hand, if you want a smooth looking jacket, and you are not trying to outdo the wife with the amount of stuff you carry around - leave out the inside pockets!:D;)

None of the jackets I have show the pocket through the front. From the mid-weight Shinki Ventura, to the big-ass Aero HBD in FQHH. Never looked like my wife's purse in any way shape or form. OTOH, I don't like sitting on a wallet and I like to make lifting my cash a little difficult if I can...

I like my wallet in my back pocket. My father, unfortunately, does too. But this is because 2/3 of his oversized wallet sticks out above the pocket...I've tried many times to "pick-pocket" him to show him it's not a good idea. He catches me every time and says: "If anyone tries to, I'll kill them". I guess that's a valid defense.

Best way to get "pick-pocketed" - use a wallet.

Best way to NOT get "pick-pocketed"..........Don't.........

Feel free to disagree:D;)

Inside pockets are critical. I have never seen them spoil the line of a jacket. A good leather hem is also critical.

For me inside pockets are key (whether it be a leather jacket, overcoat or a sport coat) one for the wallet when about town to avoid the ruffians and the other for a note book and/or my sunglasses. like some esteemed loungers have astutely pointed out it may rumple the outline of a smooth jacket to have pockets and to put something in them. but having someplace to put the essentials i will need for a day out is half the reason to wear a jacket. to this effect I go by the rule of at least one but two are better. It seems with any more than two and I don't seem to use them for much.

Unless you have something you absolutely have to carry in an inside pocket, leave them out...
Despite IXL rethinking this in post #15, I agree; if you don't need an inside pocket (or two), why bother?

On the other hand, I'm definitely a "function over fashion" kind of guy, and find inside pockets useful for holding cigarettes, cell phones, or whatever, and don't particularly care whether or not they create a visible bulge, so I'm in favor of them; your mileage may vary. :D

I have ordered this Pioneer which I am hoping to show you with two very large inner pockets (one on each side) am I right in thinking that the actual bags will show through the FQHH even if the pockets are empty? Sure I understand like denim if you carry the same item in the same pocket you get a fade there, but if you randomly carry items in an inside pocket, what do you get? You've got me all shock up now, I'm not sure if I should cancel the inner pockets.

It tends to be the outline of the pocket entrance that shows through - as a rectangle - rather than the pocket itself. Here

I should add that it's much more noticeable in this pic than it is generally.

That's because the pocket entrance is made of leather? That's un-necessary IMO. I would make it with a rugged heavy wale corduroy of a robust cotton drill.

Yes, the pocket entrances are made of leather, which are pretty robust. Should add, that the one on the left is protected behind the chest pocket, so as you can see it doesn't show through.

Thanks for that pic Sloan, looks like a remote control in there, I get it. Ta. And yes BK I agree it should be made out of chord or something non obtrusive. Maps? No. Cigar case and Hip flask.

Cancel them! They'll be in the facings so they're gonna show through, and even if they're not so bad to start with they'll only get worse in time
