Crazy steer and Milwaukee steer

Hi.

As you can see I´m new to the forum but have read and learned quite a bit in that time. And thanks to you I´m now planning to buy my first leather jacket.
I contacted Alexander Leathers and they are going to send me crazy steer and milwaukee steer leather samples.

Does somebody have any experience with these leathers? Would like to hear from people with experience.

Thanks and sorry for my bad english.

Juss

I don't have either of those leathers but I have a black Roadster in smooth steerhide and like it. Has a substantial feel to it but not stiff that it needs alot of breaking in. Both of the leathers you chose have a nice look to them if you are looking for brown.

I also have a AL Arkansas in smooth steer. It is very soft and only weighs 4.6lbs. Very comfortable, but I don't expect to see a lot of character development with wear. It is definitely a more formal leather.

So. I bought this Roadster from AL sales page and made some crappy pictures. I really would appreciate some honest feedback on how the jacket fits (as much as it is possible to see from these pics). I´m quite happy but I need some honest and objective opinions.

Thanks in advance.

Looks good to me. Lengths look right. Is it comfy? Does it afford good arm motion, like when ur driving? Give it a good wearing and it'll look better and better.

Looks good! But sleeves are too short (for my taste). 1" - 1.5" would be better.

Kind regards,

Johannes

I agree with Johannes, the sleeves could be an inch longer (that's just my personal preference).

Jacket looks good; what are your impressions of the quality of the jacket? Seams? Zipper? Matched leather panels (color and grain)?

Thanks for the feedback.

My main concern is sleeves too but the leather is really soft so I thought the creasing of sleeves will be minimal. Maybe I can stretch the sleeves a little by applying some kind of leather conditioner or water and tug gently? If the lenght stays same as now I´m happy.
Is stretching a possibility or is it a stupid idea?
It´s my first leather jacket so excuse my stupid questions.

I try to take more detailed photos tomorrow.

Good looking jacket. I agree the sleeves might be just a bit short, but should be fine if you're not a motorcyclist. Enjoy the new jacket and welcome to the Lounge.

Lovely looking jacket but just like the others have commented first thing I notice is that the sleeves are a bit to short. With your arms hanging down at your sides the sleeve should come to about half an inch above the first knuckle of your thumb.

I've not heard anyone on the site have any great success stretching the arms of jacket. While yours are hardly up around your wrists at the moment, I personally would be a little concerned that the small amount of wrinkling that tends to come from general wear and tear with even soft leathers might take it into the realms of self-consciousness.

Detailed pictures are going to take some time. Sunlight in Estonia is very limited this time of year (about 7 months) and i don't want to take any more subpar pictures. Even if i turn on every light in room it is still too dark.
But i have decided to keep the jacket. If sleeves become unbearably short i can always pass it on and try again. At the moment i can't afford full price anyway.

That's what is called a" rule of thumb" (ho ho )......and your English is good enough that I don't have to explain that means it is only a very vague "rule".....

My other non leather jackets and coats do not have long sleeves (down to the first knuckle of thumb), they are quite similar in lenght to my roadster. I guess that is why the sleeve lenght does not bother me.

i've thought severaltimes that this leather has to look better in real life.... cos it does not look great in pictures. I'd wager it changes a lot as it ages too.
