Hmm, that's a lot of horse. I've tried on a Hippy jacket in Aero's extra heavy steer, and I could hardly bend the arms! If I was starting out, I might be tempted to go with the standard and see how I get on - these things are pretty addictive, so it's unlikely to be your last!

I always thought heavy horse was a euphemism for steer, based on previous events. Like Sloan, I'm not sure I'd want any heavier than the usual FQHH.

I've 2 Aero's in heavy FQHH that's all I'll ever need till the bomb drops. I toyed with the idea of a shawl collared barnstormer but if I ever get one it'll have to be mid-weight horse or steer. The idea of that much heavy horse gives me the willys. My long half-belt is tough enough...

I had a shawl collared shearling lined FQHH Barnstormer for a couple of years. It wasn't that bad once you had the harness on your back. You're a big fella...

I had an exchange with another forum member and he said it was extreeeemly subtle. The folks at Thurston bros. confirmed same, so I thought it would just go for it.

I'm sure the OD thread will look great on that very dark brown FQHH... now you've thrown me back into a state of indecision.....

There are three new Harris Tweed Linings available for custom Aero jackets that I wanted to share with folks...

The Autumn Herringbone is greener than it appears in the photo below (it is hard to get color right in picture) and works great with Horween C/X Brown and Cordovan jackets. This liner is quite warm and looks amazing!

The Colored Check has a charcoal base with blacks, browns, and burgundy going through it and works with all colors of jacket.

The Green Check is a grey/blue base with green, black, and orange, and looks best in black Aero jackets!

Definitely add these new Harris Tweeds to your list of potential Aero liners!!!

Hi Worf,

My Aero Barnstormer is in FQHH and is not a problem at all. In fact I find it comfortable and wear it whenever I can as it's my favourite jacket by a long chalk.

You're a bigger lad than me so I'm sure you'd find a Barnstormer in FQHH an absolute doddle!

Liner weights: need your help (again)

Ok, so I've ordered up my jacket, but still have time to make changes, so a final question or two to you all, if you don't mind.

I've chosen the Grant Weathered tartan, which is lightweight, afaik. My question is: is light weight sufficient for winter? I won't be able to stuff a very heavy sweater in the jacket, so....

FYI, I do want this to be a three-season piece for fall, winter and spring. I'm guessing that lightweight is going to give me the most flexibility, but wanted to hear your thoughts.

Thanks!

If you're looking for a three-season lining, the lightweight Grant Weathered will see you fine. It's what I've got in my LHB, and I wore it through a bitterly cold and damp Scottish winter last year with just a heavy, but not ultra-heavy, jumper underneath it and a scarf.

Reeks, you'll be fine with lightweight. It's not light in the sense of silk, but tougher than cotton and strangely cooler too. I certainly wouldn't want anything heavier.

Weathered Grant is perfect for brown and cordovan, by the way. I have it in a couple of jackets and love it.

Thank you Sloan and WDW. BTW, that liner looks excellent in your pic, Sloan!

If Weathered Grant is warm enough for Scotland, it's gotta be ok for Jersey. (Make stereotypical New Jersey slights at your own risk:mad::))

Still on the fence with the OD green stitching, though. Now I'm thinking of scrapping it, going back to matching. Although I'm told it very subtle, as I look at the stitching on my fit jackets (gotta send those back), the stitches are LARGE, you can see a lot of thread. I'm just a bit unsure....

Well Reeks--I've definitely decided ( after consulting the I Ching ) to stay with matching...but then my jacket is a button, not zip, job. This means, I assume, that there will also be button holes.... and that will mean quite a lot of the thread colour being evident so I'm keeping it all fairly plain. Good luck with making your choice on this.
