That is a HUGE ring gauge. I bet it was a good hour's worth.
Froze my ass off, but it was worth it. Accompanied by a nice dram of Longmorn 15.

You didn't smoke it in your smoking room?! :faint: I wouldn't stand in the snowy weather to smoke a Cuban from 1959 much less that.
Did you finish the bottle? I would have if it was that cold.

The pipes I've been smoking recently are my two Missouri Meerschaums and Captain Black. I can only smoke outside or in my smithy, and it's too cold to sit outside and enjoy one of my briars or calabashes and a nice tobacco. The cobs I'm not worried about banging up. I had an old briar I used as a workshop pipe, but it fell out of my pocket and is now under several feet of snow...somewhere. My cobs are the "Mizzou", the small bent, and the "Eaton", the straight version. I took the short bit out of the Eaton and put on a regular one, which gives it a rather long stem.

Took my bent briar out into the garage last night for another break in session. Colder than crud out there and slowly getting the hang of keeping it tamped right and lit.

Meerschaums are decent pipes even though they are reasonably priced. You need to get a MacArthur meerschaum next.

You'll get the hang of it, but it will still go out. You will have to re-light, that's just pipe smoking. One of the joys of the ritual.
BTW, I'm at the ranch smoking something...let's see...Illusione CG4. And a cold Shiner.

I just have to order one. They aren't as cheap as the smaller ones though. You get more pipe smoking out of that bowl though.

Yes, a pipe going out just happens. There used to be pipe smoking contests in the old days. I have heard of an oldster who kept a pipe going for an hour without it going out once. :eeek: He won.

Today was a two fer.
My friend and I have been working our way through Cigar Aficionado’s Top 25 list. Today we tried the L’Atelier and the Bijou.
The L’Atelier was kind of bland but the Bijou was a decent smoke.
