In a few years, when she is hitting you up for yet "another" high-end custom jacket, and absolutely refusing to wear the same "cheap mall trash" as her quality-ignorant friends, you sir, will both swell with pride, and at the same time recoil at the ever-growing thinness of your wallet. And you can look back and know the exact moment when all this started!

I thought about this, and another scenario: me having to sell one of my jackets to afford a new one for her ;(

I have a work-around that I call the one-and-done. From now until she's 18, when she lobbies for anything expensive, I'll just say "What you want...I already bought you a Langlitz!"

lol @ Joan Jett! Even the hairstyle is a match! And yeah, I was only kidding. For some reason, trapp, that part about second guessing the back yoke really had me laughing. :D

Agreed. Her home-haircut paired with black leather has revealed some latent affinity with Joan Jett. She just needs to work on her scowl.

She looks really cute in that Langlitz.

I got my daughter a very slimmed down Highwayman when she was around 10 and she wore it until she left for college. She absolutely loved that jacket. It's a really good way to teach your child about the value of craftsmanship and quality. You could take some time and read to her as well like maybe "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance". Good Father Daughter time....

Do I remember you posting pics of her & that jacket on the old VLJ (maybe version 1 or 2)? Seems I recall that little girl and jacket.

That's so cool Trapp! hey you're not looking to adopt a 45-year-old Aussie are you? I need a rockin' Langlitz . . . lol lol

We were batting around the idea of adoption just the other night - and thinking that a 45-year old Aussie would be just the ticket to lively up the home.

Would you settle for a Driza-bone?

Great story, and a good suggestion about the Pirsig book.

It sounds like your daughter had an amazing jacket. Does she still have it? Would love to see it - if you have any old pics post them up.

No she no longer has it, but she certainly has no interest in "Mall" jackets. She is the first to comment on jackets in movies looking to see if it might be Horsehide or Steer. By the way hers was midweight horsehide and wore like iron.

My understanding of kids clothes is always go for large size as they grow really fast.

Ha, ain't that the truth! IT's not really something I'd thought about til my brother and some of my peers started having kids, but jinkies... I was shocked to discover that for the first year they can only wear anything for three months before they've outgrown it... I'd love to get my nice and nephew into some nice leathers (their folks aren't into jackets, so somebody has to get them started....), but most anything of the quality I'd look for myself I just can't justify the cost when they'll grow out of it in a year at most. (Been looking recently for one of those kids' Alpha nylon NASA jackets, though they all seem to be in the US and postage is a killer...).

Agreed. Her home-haircut paired with black leather has revealed some latent affinity with Joan Jett. She just needs to work on her scowl.

Bonus: when she hits fifteen and wants a Gibson guitar, she'll be asking for the cheap (relatively) Melody Maker model, rather than the eye-wateringly expensive reissue Les Pauls... ;)

Sure! And I don't eat much! lol

On a serious note, I'd love to get my little girl a nice jacket, but she's not a real jacket wearer. Like her mother, she doesn't feel
the cold. Must be the Scottish heritage on the Mrs' side.

What a great photo. It amazes me how well the highwayman translates. I don't know if it was custom but it looks perfect.

I think the photo here was the "perfect fit period" which lasted through high school. When we first ordered the jacket the sleeves were a bit long but she used the tried and true "kid method" of breaking in a jacket as opposed to the "hot water treatment" so when we sold it on ebay it definitely had patina.
