Windward jackets by Montgomery Ward (and copies)

Thanks for the honest opinions, they pretty much reflect what I've been thinking myself. Partly, I blame myself. I should have calculated with the 0.5" tolerances when I ordered it with a 24.25" length and given it some extra length just to be on the safe side.

I just measured it again and it actually is pretty much 23.5" long. It would have been a short fit with 24.25" and the missing 0.75" just make the crucial difference between a short jacket and a too short jacket. It fits so well in sleeves, shoulders and bodies, it's a shame really. I suppose there's no way around it, I'll have to contact Holly tommorrow.

It happens. I've not been happy with the length of a couple of jackets and had to sell.

Well, it's much better to give a maker of such things tolerances like this:

Length: 25.5" +.5"-.75", -0"
That way, they know not to make it shorter, but longer is OK.
People always give tolerances for things like they're ordering wood. (not saying you did). Give the maker your request and put into writing that it can be larger by xx amount, but not smaller.

I'm surprised that the Windward I purchased has a crown zipper. Haven't seen that on the other ones.

Funny thing is I bought it even though I totally distrust the seller's measurements (I got burned on an Aero 50s HB before). Good news was they took it back
This one was advertised as 25" long from shoulder down.
We'll see.....

Do you distrust that because it sounds long for a Windward? I'd like to see more of them because it's the one pattern that has never appealed to me. Maybe I need to see more of them on different people...

Does it have an overhang where the front extends below the back when looking at it from the back? I think a lot of sellers add that to the back measurement, making it advertised at least an inch longer than is.

So the arrival of the Windward is bittersweet.
The seller measured wonky as suspected:
25" down the back was what the listing stated.
You tell me.

Nick brought this up in another post. I hadn't seen this before, but if you are e-baying from a certain lady seller of jackets in the UK....beware of this style measuring she uses.

Now, onto the jacket....
Apart from being a touch too short for me, it's pretty awesome! Sorry guys, no fit pics yet, but here are some quick shots of the jacket:

I haven't seen a Crown zip on these before as I mentioned, so maybe this is an earlier model.?.
The lining has been replaced, but was originally brown/olive.

The pocket bags are also replaced save for one cream moleskin one.
Once I get fit pics up, some may say the length is fine...it does cover my belt. I feel that it would probably be perfect for someone closer to 5'8 though (I'm 5'11").
In torn on giving it the Pecards treatment or not before moving it on... the wear is soooo nice.

Yeah, beware!
She sells a lot of nice looking jackets, but If the measurements are weird...... well, it don't do us buyers any good.
