About time somebody else posted pixs here. For some reason the majority of hats Bob builds never get featured here and it's a shame. Look forward to more pixs when you get it Jared.

Thank you all for the kind words...of course it's Bob who deserves the credit, and tip of the hat to Alan for the inspiration.

Can't wait to get my hands on this one!

It's here!

The inspiration for this hat was a good long search through many threads of the Fedora Lounge. The primary influence is Alan's wonderful Stetson Star from the Pre 1940's Stetson Dress hats thread. I asked Bob to also include his "Halo +1" edge treatment, for that special Black Sheep Hatworks touch.

Here's Alan's original for comparison:

And here's Bob's take in his heather grey rabbit felt, hand dyed ribbon:

Inside details, including the very cool embossed sweatband:

Neat little detail (the button is for the removable stampede strings, for those windy San Francisco days):

I love it! The heathered felt has a nice mix and depth of tones. And of course Bob's handiwork is top notch. I opted for the "impermeable tip liner" instead of a full liner, which I think adds to the 'pre-War Stetson' vibe.

Congrats Jared, Bob nailed the repro while adding some sweet details. I believe you must have one of his first manufacturing tags too, another great vintage detail he's been thinking about.

Jared; Gorgeous outcome! This artisan hat started with a spectacular idea of yours. Alan's vtg. Stetson Star is a great inspiration start. I truly am amazed with the details and the gray rabbit felt. Almost heather-like in look. Wow! This is a special hat.

I look forward to seeing more of this hat over the upcoming years.

Mike; The tags are a very cool feature for us hat fiends. As an owner of several BSHW lids you would really be in the know. I always enjoy seeing your BSHW in the What Hat Are You Wearing thread.

Wow. Tell us about the button.
+1. Very intriguing detail.

Thank you everyone for such kind compliments.

Here's some more details of the wind/stampede strings. They're just a simple leather braid. The 'tab' end slips between the sweatband and the inside of the crown, then hooks on to the button. This was a late addition to the project and I like the implementation here. I've seen detachable strings on some western hat sellers sites which have cotter pins....this seems like a more refined solution to having the strings on or off.

Here's a shot of the brim treatment, it's a very fine stitching, with an added concentric row. It reminds me of some Borsalino treatments. Bob also told me he just got in this very cool stamp for his sweatband.
