The man sitting down looks like someone I should know. My best guess was "Bigfoot" William Wallace, who in 1848 rejoined the Texas Rangers & was there until he joined the Confederacy when the Civil War broke out in 1861. Not sure that is him in your picture though.

I noted some similarity between the two in their lower lip, chin & left cheek bone area although when you enlarge your pic it would appear that he has a scar on his left cheek. I noted differences in their left ears & noses.
